Very little shocks me in football anymore! Surprised but not completely shocked!

Oh now there's a thing. I wonder if he's been made to withdraw his comments re the JT issue.

Was he pushed or did he jump ? I guess we'll find out shortly.

I must confess this doesn't surprise or worry me but hubby has started to tune into the BBC news channel.

Anyone in mind to replace him CS ?

If you want the very best then you wait for Jose Mourinho to leave Real Madrid at the end of May 2012.If one has a romantic notion that it must be an Englishman we shall see in due course if or when Harry Redknapp does takes over. The media man are almost demanding that it has to be Redknapp However, I'd warn people to beware what they wish for and we shall see just how effective Redknapp will be at international level..

Yes exactly what hubby was saying CS. He like many others would like to see JM in the job but it would be nice if we could have an Englishman in the post.

At least Jose Mourinho is gorgeous to look at! ;-)

I in no way mean to be rude to you creative saver, but I could not give a flying whatsit about this. There are far more important things on the UK agenda at the moment than overpaid sportsmen and their managers.

Sidesalad, I couldn't agree more!

No flying whatsits coming from my direction either, I'm afraid, sorry.

Given the amount of money he has earned, his results are pathetic. He was paid millions each year to do what? Nothing!

With so much debate about bonuses in the news of late, if any job should be results driven and bonus rewarded it has to be the England Manager's job.

Pay a basic wage in keeping with a CEO's role and if he achieves certain targets then make it worth his while.

However, it seems that working for the FA is a poisoned chalice. I greatly appreciate that for some (on this board) it doesn't matter but for many more, this is a national sqaud and therefore, are England's ambassadors on the world stage of football, and this matters to them.

They link the success of the football squad with national pride and given the economic woes befalling us all, there is a need for many to feel an uplift in the hopes and beliefs of our national squad.

If it doesn't matter, someone better tell the news channels and the printed media, as they are leading with this story even today. It seems this matters more than the Syrian civil war and the tragic loss of innocent lives in Homs.

That was really my point Parchester. The England football manager and the HMRC court case re the tax issues of some football manager have dominated the headlines and that just shows me what our priorities seem to be in this country. How is it that we berate the high salaries of bankers and yet apparently accept that what seem to me (obviously a non-fan of football) ridiculous amounts paid to primadonna footballers and managers that have had no success with the national team? We kid ourselves if we think that this lot are ever going to be successful. They just seem to take the money and behave appallingly. We do not have world class English footballers so let's just get over it.

You almost feel that Capello had timed this exit to save face from a poor campaign in Euro 2012 ... perhaps the 'Terry' issue was just the chance he needed. As a manager, his performance has been graded as 'mediocre' I understand and he is hardly paid mediocre wages. And with 1.5 million in his back pocket, he must be happy to trot back to Italy and call it a day.

The whole thing is not so much shock as dismay that we now have a world competition only a few months away with uncertain leadership ... will the players become dejected or will some new vibrant management blood give them the lift they probably need.

I just hope they make the right choice for the new or caretaker manager ... and as for the ladies on here not giving a gnats nuptual, they should remember this is a 'man' thing and let us wander into the field of footy conjecture without comment!

OK - fair enough! I know that football is not a matter of life and death.................

by Sidesalad, 3 months ago

Fair enough Snoops, I know my place...........

by Jazzj, 3 months ago

There are loads of female football fans, Snoops, it's just that some of us aren't, exactly as some men aren't, none of my male friends are even slightly interested in football. :-)

Stuart Pearce for the job. Oh and on the financial side. Players should be priveladged to play for their country. Not financially awarded. Whats the price on lifiting the World Cup? I'd say, Priceless. but you would have a lifetimes worth of pride!

by Kippermanbike, 3 months ago

Stuart Pearce is unfit to be caretaker manager of England. So he gets rewarded after complete failure at under 21 level.Enland cannot win Euro 2012 with Pearce in charge.

by creativesaver, 3 months ago

England cannot win Euro 2012 - full stop!

After reading the in depth press cuttings on Fabio Capello today, it seems his departure was long overdue, with tension between the players that he simply tried to quash rather than 'man manage' as Harry Redknapp is so famous for at Spurs. There are also reports that his poor command of the English language has led to lots of things getting 'lost' in translation ....
