Financial services staff are getting sticky fingers

by , 3 months ago

Defrauding customers and taking their cash! New figures show a 41% increase in insider fraud last year so keep an eye on your accounts.

Nothing new really they have been doing it for years its just getting worse now due to technology advances and the credit crunch and farming all our financial services out to India.

Wow, that's a huge increase!!! Any idea how many cases a year there are, just to put it in context?

Its actually directly from the money.co.uk newsletter which i read avidly - its the only interesting one on the internet to be honest.

Well laid out , easy to read , just the right amount of info without being boring or hard to digest.

Frankly I think that it should be made illegal to give them Indians free access to our accounts .. nothing against the Indian call centre staff per se, it's just that I do not consider it 'proper' to have my accounts accessed and discussed with people who are so many thousands of miles away and may or may not be direct employees of my bank. How on earth can you measure the culpability of Foreign Call Centre staff when they could never appear in an English court should they defraud my account?

Exactly how I feel about it Snoopy. In a nutshell

It's just not right.

Think we all agree

I'd be interested in hearing more regarding this, Omen. Is there any particular company that is known for this to happen which ones should we be on the look out for?

Basically any credit card company that farms it helpdesk out to 3rd world so basically all of them except good old American Express...
Amex always have had and always will have my respect as I know they have a good security setup and professional and excellent trained knowledgeable staff who wont leave you in the lurch or fob you off...

Most of the foreign call centres are just first line and try and get rid of you - they use a set of scripted questions and answers but beyond that they havent got a clue...Same as a lot of I.T. Support...

They do they do, and its soooooooo infuriating!!!

Exactly snoops its not just India its anywhere where the staff are paid 20p and a bag of monkeynuts a week - its not really surprising they steal after all.

Hence why we should keep it British and support companies that keep it British and desert companies that make it foreign - Lets name them and shame them.

Virgin Media for a start I have never encountered such monumental stupidity , bad service - although they do have British call centres - bit of a bagatelle who you get but after 5pm its always India or Phillipines.

Lets keep it British and give our own people back some jobs and self respect - Its a hard job working in a call centre - I have done it - worked for the DSS as a student and it was hellish let me tell you people phoning and swearing shouting and threatening to wait for you outside for a bashing.

I then worked as an IT administrator for a well known debt recovery agency and it was an eye opener.

Virgin Media are upping the cost of broadband, increasing call charges and pushing back the time free evening calls start from 6pm to 7pm. If you're a customer check how you'll be affected by these non-negotiable changes

by Omendata, 3 months ago

Some of it legal though. Check your charges and sack your IFA almost certainly 0.5% leaking away in trail charges from day one.

by stevee, 3 months ago

Ah yes, but the newer technology should make it easier to spot the "leakages".Some apparent theft is actually due to incompetence of course. My Mum went into Santander to close an account and get a cheque, took them over 30 minutes to do it, they gave her a cheque for most of it and said she had to have £8.85 in cash. IDIOTS ! (teller had done it wrong, maybe sometimes the £8.85 would disappear !!).
