Does there seem to be a complete lack of gritters out this week ( I haven't seen one ) or do they wait for the first inch of snow to arrive? And our potholed roads ( and boy, aren't there some ) being left until the spring/summer to keep the budget down?
OR do we still expect too much in this overtaxed and underfunded country? We are promised up to four inches of snow in the south east area by this evening, so will it all grind to a halt?
yes snoopy its the same every year last minute, then grid lock on our moterways its what us folk put up with
Yep, no gritters here either, despite the snow (admittedly its not deep but...), and deep potholes all over the place in the lanes! Been a while since we've had four inches.......
Saw the weather forecast this morning and they predicted a few splashes of moisture down south, followed by a hardening of the precipitation and some people may have six inches to handle by the morning ...
I should be so lucky.........
Thank goodness it only comes a few times a year ...
Snoops you are being very rude again. You keep popping these smutty answers in - how do you think of them I would like to know. I think you could write a book with all your sayings.
It's not just me then Lillie who spots them. I'm starting to think I'm reading Snoops postings wrong but if you see the same it must be right.
Oh yes he's full of it, bless him :)
Aren't we talking about snow then.........?
Weeelll yeeesss....I think so.:)
Well I was :)
Yes, we had a good few inches during the night. Sadly, only of snow....
And I didn't get either.........
I take great exception to the thought that I am being rude on here ... it seems that the sisters of sin seem to have a handle on my postings that I am failing to see ... I have absolutely no idea where you get these interpretations from! Minds like sewers seems to spring to mind!
Well we all woke up here is Sussex with a good six inches to handle ... quite took my breath away. The next door neighbours have already built a six foot snow man and snow-woman side by side ... the only difference between then ... yes you've guessed it .... Snowballs!
Q : Why are women like snow flakes??
A : They are all beautiful. They are all different. They can all be cold as ice. But they'll all melt when they land on your face...
And it's soooo cold here that someone I saw walking his dog had to chisel the dog off the lampost when it pee'd up it.
I don't know Snoops, there we are having an innocent conversation about the snow and Sabre and Lillie are thinking all sorts of things!! The blame can't possibly lie with us...
As for waking up with six inches...none whatsoever here.......
I've only got four inches here, I don't know whether to brag or complain...
We had our four inches but it's going soft now....
Isn't it awful when that happens Feline all that sludgey mess left behind...
Lillie, another glass of wine bites the dust....!
Oh dear yet another spillage, I'll send you round some of that foamy stuff and a mop....
I believe twelve inches was mentioned for later this week but that can't be regarded as a rule .....
Twelve inches oh noo that's way too much, eeek.
That 12 inches isn't going to happen, girls....!
Jeez, really couldn't cope with twelve!!
Why do they always over exaggerate?....
LOL, Serena, are you talking about weather forecasters or men in general?
Both!
Come to think of it feline it's both men weather... Lol
I believe, depending where you live, 12 inches is the norm. Of course that will be high up in the hills I would think what are your thoughts on the matter Snoops.
I guess, Sabre, that the bigger it is, the more messy it becomes when it softens up. Boy does it mess my shoes up!
Omen, help.... send Tena pants urgently....!
Ah Tena Pants they're often underneath penis enlargement and Viagra pills in my spam slot.
What size would you like??
If this thread goes on, Lillie, I will need extra large......
Oh Lillie, nearly fell off my chair then - wondered where you were going with that post!!
I suppose now that the weather centre has issued an amber warning and have confidently predicted actual snow, we might see a few gritters out on the major roads tonight.
It is like a skating rink down our drive and all the Close is covered in ice. We won't get the gritters round our area at all and are lucky if they do the main roads. We sometimes end up being snowed in and have to make sure we have plenty of supplies before that happens.
Everythings now looking white but not seen a gritter, but will eventually
I guess everyone'e waiting for the white stuff to come ...
the white stuff is ok my garden will looks as good as my neighbours who won best in street
LOL, Bluej x
You will have to compete with them next year bluej and give them a nice surprise.
Daughter out walking on Dartmoor today..sent her with thermals and plenty of soup!
Hope she got back safely, Jazz!
She did thanks feline, complete with a bag of snowballs and a load of mud that she trod all over the kitchen floor...........
WTF did she do with the snowballs, Jazz?
Love it feline, think they ended up down the back of her someone's shirt......
LOL!
Ah yes the white stuff is on its way here Snoopy in fact according to the forecast it should have arrived by now.
It's a bitterly cold Saturday afternoon so snuggle up with a hot drink and maybe a nice couple of crumpets while your at it.:) Whatever you do layer up and keep warm.
Oh he'll enjoy a couple of crumpets Lillie given half the chance !!!!
Yes those or muffins all very indulgent!
Do you know something, I haven't had any crumpet for years .... my mum used to get them from M&S, toasted and lots of butter, yummy! Does anyone remember them being called 'pikelets'?
I believe pikelets is the northern word for them.
I personally like them dripping in real butter.
Yes Snoops I love them and they sell them at Asda. With proper butter on they are scrumptious. Shame they are so fattening though. I can't believe you haven't had a bit of crumpet for years Snoops. Doesn't sit right that one knowing your taste for a woman.
Oh Snoops, you should treat yourself to some crumpets every now and then!
Everyone should get their fair share of crumpet. I like mine with lots of real butter.
I grew up in the East Midlands and they were called pikelets there.
Oh yes its got to be butter!
East Midlands waiting for snow...then we skid all over..remember stay WELL away from car in front..easy on gas..and brakes..if you go into a slde..clutch in...steer into the slide..correct steering and all should be ok.. normally,to slow down, use gears instead of brakes if you can...and again easy on gas..look well ahead for trouble..
we will spend all our money OUT of this country.ask your MP...........then ...none left for us...
meanwhile I will eat crumpets...cake..wrap up...ohh have you noticed...when shopping...most of the shops have all doors open...heat going full blast..big bills....government want us to use low energy bulbs..personally..I plant mine in the garden..!!!
and did u know..if you are selling your house u need an energy rating...and ..yes you guess right..low energy bulbs come into their own...they are included in ratings....don't have any ?...you lose 1 or 2 points ...ohh and shops leave all doos open heat on...yes I know..I said that before...!!! smile
Well we've got about 4" of the white stuff this morning, a good layering and quality icicles hanging from the lamp posts.
All very nice to look at but oh dear the chaos it causes.
We woke up to thick snow this morning with ice underneath and already a car has skidded across the road. It looks lovely but it's perishing. Shan't be going far today.
Sounds like a cosy day in by the fire is called for..I've actually got sunshine!!
It's crazy. I don't see Canada essentially being closed for business for 3-4 months of the year due to snowfall!
Where does this country go wrong? And why has it been going wrong for so long?
Because its always a surprise.....I mean, who would expect snow or ice in winter?? Come on now .......
That's true. It's like the shock of having leaves on the line in Autumn...
It's just the wrong kind of snow...!
Ona serious note though, we get snowfall in parts of the country (London is where I live) maybe once or twice a year. Some years we don't see any snowfall. it does not make sense to have all those expensive equipment to keep roads clear when you may only need them once or twice a year.
Canada is a different situation. it snows there 3/4 months of the year - makes complete sense to invest in those sort of equipments.
I agree, HSP, but individuals could do more to prepare by investing in winter tyres, etc.
It looks as if some of the airlines have closed down today so it's already affecting thousands of people.
I'm just giving thanks for the fact that Mr F's brother came to visit last weekend.
We could have been stuck with him for days...
Just typical isn't it Sabre, the whole infrastructure crumbles yet again because of the weather.
It hasn't risen above freezing here all day and the beautiful icicle hanging off our lampost is as resplendant as ever.
I know how you feel Feline if my 'know it all', 'mine is better than yours', SIL's hubby stayed for more time than was expected then I would have to launch him or me off the nearest cliff... oik.
Defo OK, Sis!
Your wonderful dry wit didn't go without notice Feline - so funny and heartfelt.
So glad my son wasn't flying to Portugal tomorrow like last week or he would have had a very rough time.
We all know someone like that, my brother in law is one......
Right up their own backsides aren't they. I'm sure they don't realise how people laugh at them.
Good to know I'm not alone, girls!
All this talk of the white stuff...
I've been waiting to get our share we're normally get it first but no sign whatsoever! I shouldn't complain maybe we'll be excluded?... Chance would be a fine thing!
I've got none either..quite envious of all these people waking up with several inches to play with.....
It doesn't last very long Jazzj! Those who are having it at the moment can make the most of it!!
So we're not missing out we'll get the white stuff soon enough...
There's still plenty around here :)
I'm very surprised that Glasgow is without snow still this year Serene1.Are you sure? There is no snow here on the south coast too but that is not really surprising. As for snow trouble we must be the only country in the world that cannot cope with 4 inches of snow.
I'm so amazed cs! I keep looking our every morning expecting it and for some bizarre reason not a flake! We only got only a few days beginning of dec but nothing since. I shouldn't complain cs. It is extremely cold though... :(
The winter cold will start biting even harder in the next few days folks. I read on daily mail today to expect temps of minus 13. May be the snow will be falling hard soon in Glasgow!
Oh the joys! I'm just outside Glagow sitting up higher and we're always a few degrees colder than Glasgow! Snow can lie up here for weeks and yet Glasgow can thaw out in days so unfair
Shoud the government and local councils NOT have anticipated how to deal with 4 or 5 inches of snow this year after last year's freezing weather? I can imagine people in Canada and US having a good old laugh that the UK's economy could grind to a complete stop because of 4 to 5 inches of snow. This is not good enough!
I'm with you on that! Every year it's the same here the gritters are not out beforehand then they run out if salt motorways are at a standstill for hours and hours last year people were stuck in their cars on the motorway overnight without food and water! That should not have happened!!!
