Do You Believe Harry Redknapp Is Innocent About HMRC Allegations That He Sought To Evade Paying Income Tax?

by , 3 months ago

Tottenham Hotspur manager denies 'desperately' trying to cover up allegations that £189k payments into a Monaco bank account were bonuses for transfer profits whilst a Premiership manager at Portsmouth. All I will say is that it does not look very good for him at all when it is not disputed that he opened a secret Monaco account in his dog's name but solely operated by himself for years. I say the signs do not look good for him after today but who knows when you have the financial means to pay good money to your defence lawyer.

There appears to be so many counter agruments to facts being established. Even the stories of Redknapp and Mandarich counter one another. How confusing is this?

It seems that the approach of the defence is to bamboozle the jury and create a difficult picture for any to really grasp.

Tonight the jury have asked for clarification on certain points, which makes me think that they are having trouble following the various complex stories and arguments.

In any event, I suppose that both parties will be found guilty and fined and be made pay costs.

I havnt followed the case in detail but it would appear, generally speaking, that if you are "caught" with an offshore a/c, in a ficticious name, undeclared to the UK tax authorities then asking some simple questions such as why you chose a ficticious name, etc will resolve this. Are we stupid - its a no brainer surely. Wish I was on the jury, 10 minutes decision me thinks.

Its hard to know as not privy to the finer details but the spiel in the press makes me think hes guilty. Like other respondents, a fictitious account in your dogs name, conflicting reasons for what the money is and from where makes me believe he tried to be clever and got caught out! Sorry Harry!

I really feel like saying "Hooray for Harry", but I know that you will all think badly of me if I do. People like Harry who earn high salaries REALLY do pay vast sums to the Inland Revenue, and it must gall them when they know that out of the 60+ hours they work each week, they are paying the revenue they get for at least 35 of thoes hours to the Tax office, they do not see it in their pockets.
Most high earner are self employed and they work very hard. No one really objects to tax, it is for the common good, but when they see "scoundgers" getting handouts and paying no tax, it must make it very hard for them to accept the collosal payments they have to make. I am not making excuses for Harry, just trying to get people to try to understand him better.
PS I am not a football fan!

Opening a secret account in his dog's name? Is he barking mad? But has anyone questioned whether a dog can actually legally hold a financial interest like this, after all people do bequeath vast sums to animals.

No it does not look good although I think HR has been well primed by his defence lawyer and it seems that there are some theatrics of note here.

But as HR said today, would a man of my calibre come into court, swear on the bible and actually lie? Nay, nay, nay and four times nay, of course he wouldn't.

The question remains, does a dog have a personal tax allowance?
