Is there anything making you cross at the moment?

by , 3 months ago

Being a bit poorly and confined to bed and the computer this week, I have had time to listen carefully to the radio.

So, is there anything that's made you want to throw the TV or radio out of the window?

Responses (19)

Hi Feline
Yes lots of things on tv and radio make me annoyed. Firstly the commercial ads which seem to be aimed at the hard of hearing and thinking and are sooo patronising. Secondly the constant ads for forthcoming programmes. I feel as though I've already seen the best bits by the time the programme comes along.
Most interviews with politicians are annoying as they are never made to answer the flipping question.
I'll come back later with more!

by Sidesalad, 3 months ago

Very good start to your list, SS, and looking forward to more.

The one that made me want to throw the radio out of the window this morning was the presenter who said that the person about to be interviewed was 'A former English teacher' I wonder what she is now, Bangladeshi, maybe?

And why do they refer to 'male nurses'? Nobody ever refers to 'female nurses'.

Why do they report that 'a prostitute has been murdered'? I don't recall any reports saying that 'a supermarket shelf-stacker has been murdered'. The latter would just have been called a woman or a girl.

Oh, I do hope I get better soon as I'm turning into a bit of a sad git!

by Feline123, 3 months ago

I am getting annoyed by the patronising treatment we get from weather forecasters. 'Don't forget to wrap up warm, it's going to be below feezing'. Hello, I think I can work out for myself whether I need a coat and boots when I go out...and I do take an umbrella if the forecast says rain. I don'tneed to be told. For heavens' sake let us make our own decisions please!

by Sidesalad, 3 months ago

I'm with you on that, Sidesalad!

by Feline123, 3 months ago

I was about to give you a long list of things that could make me cross if I let them until I realised you meant on TV/radio.........

by Jazzj, 3 months ago

sorry to here your not well feline hope you will be back to your self very soon, yes what annoys me is the goverment blameing labour snow anything except them self

by bluej, 3 months ago

Thanks, BJ.

That's what governments always do.....!

by Feline123, 3 months ago

I'm snuggled up on the sofa under my woolly blanket suffering along with you Feline, just wishing this blasted flu would clear off.
Isn't day time TV dire? I've turned it off and slept some more, I really could sleep on a clothesline at the moment.
Still rest is good for us and natures way of telling us to slow down so take it easy and hopefully tomorrow we'll both see an improvement.

by LILLIE, 3 months ago

by Jazzj, 3 months ago

Thank you Jazzy, night, night.

by LILLIE, 3 months ago

Thanks, Jazz. Mr F has gone out tonight to the village supper club. I didn't feel well enought to go but preferred him to go and make my apologies and get his dinner so I didn't have to cook!

I ate some reheated leftover pasta, had a couple ogf glasses of wine and I'm feeling a bit better now.

by Feline123, 3 months ago

Sorry you no better Feline. Take care love Sabre x

by Sabre, 3 months ago

So sorry to hear your not feeling well Feline and Lillie!!! Plenty of rest over the weekend and that should do the trick! I'm not I'll but I wish I could spend a weekend in bed!!! Take care and relax girls!!

by serena1, 3 months ago

Chance would be a fine thing wouldn't it??

by Jazzj, 3 months ago

I would luv, Jazzj! But this weekend but we have a party to go to so a few drinks tomo night and staying over at my friends it's becoming a habit!!! I'd trade it in for my bed at the moment!! I'm sure once I'm there I'll enjoy it...it's the thought of getting all dressed up and seemingly its going to be a cold one this weekend!!

by serena1, 3 months ago

I'll swap for washing, ironing and general drudgery if you like.......? That's all I've got lined up!!

by Jazzj, 3 months ago

I'll be doing all that on the Sunday! Probably with a hangover yuk!!

by serena1, 3 months ago

Perhaps you could claim illness and your daughter will do it.......? Reckons pigs would fly in my house before anyone else lifted a finger, is yours the same?

by Jazzj, 3 months ago

Party cancelled!! So i'm on the wonderful forum and my daughter is studying intermediate 2 chemistry exam! House in silence washing on just finished work at 5pm such a good feeling! No snow here just horrible rain!

by serena1, 3 months ago

Yes its been horrendous torrential rain this morning afternoon etc hope its not tomorrow as Im going kite surfing and flying my helicopter!

by Omendata, 3 months ago

Rain here too..no kite surfing for me though, I'll be helping with homework

by Jazzj, 3 months ago

the government are picking on those who are at there lowest& need all the help we can get.

by oldie, 3 months ago

Oohh Yes, I am getting annoyed now ....
Im running out of questions to lavish with my expertise.
It's making me so annoyed I feel I may be lured into making stupid inane comments, attempting humour or ( reaching the depths now ) actually participating in a conversation on here.
CB radio for geeks with broadband ??
Seriously though at least the quality of the financial questions seems to have improved a bit since my last session on here, and your own humour made me chuckle !! Ta.

by ihateavatars, 3 months ago

I didn't know you were unwell, feline, need to take it easy for a while! The house with minimalist decor in shades of white and the perfectly groomed, reclining whining wife wondering if she could get her hubby to make dinner. Ugh! its so patronising.

by instinct, 3 months ago

The Governments premise that all disabled people and single parents are scrounging liars and work-dodgers who can work but wont. Seems to be in the news all the time! It lumps those very few cheats in with the rest of us and gives us a bad name. Of course I realise the Government debt has to be brought under control and it must be better to work than not, but that starts from the premise that 1) there are jobs there to do, 2) you can do those jobs. After a car crash 2 years ago I lost my new job (as I was on probation as new) that had taken 9 months of negotiation for me to start, due to me already having disabilities and needing some assistance put in place to do my job. I stand no chance now as I cant go back to similar work and Im unqualified for anything else other than the well-paid profession I had. Who'd employ me knowing I cant do a full days work, am often sick and unable to leave my bed? I wish I COULD work as hate being though a scrounger but the "specialist" agency the DSS send me to cant find ANY job that I could do with my health the way it is, and yet Im still in the able-to-work group and looking at being without any benefit in April when the changes come in (as been on ESA for over 12 months). How do I loose £20 a week AND lie that Im looking for a job while signing on when I cant even get anyone to accommodate me for voluntary work? Plus Jobseekers is also going to be time-limited too! Im soo scared of the future but have to agree that something has to change the culture of being better off work than working. Moral catch 22 for me.

by madmumof5, 3 months ago

Gosh that sounds awful! I'm sorry to hear how a crash had affected your life! Can you not contact your local MP and get them to sort out the benefit agency...

by serena1, 3 months ago

I do think they have realised they have to look at this again, also your G.P will know you are so genuine so you must think of who will support you deal with all this.

by instinct, 3 months ago

If I may so so madmumof5, you are probably an exception to the rule here but saying that, there are many like you. I liaise with our benefit fraud investigator weekly and I am continually surprised at the volume of people committing benefit fraud with whom I have had contact with. I guess some 10% of my emails are about suspected or obvious fraud and I know so well just how hard it is to take any of these to prosecution although benefit can be suspended regardless. Sad to say, there are people on Incapacity Benefit or ESA who manipulate situations and laugh, smoke and drink during their relatively stress fee days. These are the people that we have to target as they are really sticking two fingers up to the public purse .... but in the midst of that, there are many, many people who for one reason or another, or a combination of reasons, will always face a challenge when being asked to seek work. Yes, we must motivate everyone to do so but there has to be an infrastructure that deals with and appreciates those with 'special needs' and indeed where there is simply no suitable work for them. Effective and compassionate targetting must be in place here.

This is one reason why we are seeing a rise in people declaring 'self employment', perhaps working from home and doing virtually anything that could stimulate some income .... even if that declared business makes a loss, you can still try for Working Tax Credits, Child Tax Credits ( if you have kids under 16 ), Housing and Council Tax benefits and DLA ( both care and mobility components ) if you have continuing physical problems.

by Snoopy48, 3 months ago

Snoops is right. Still it's such a shame to be tarnished with the same brush as those who are "just at it"

by serena1, 3 months ago

You've just made me extra angry snoops!

Hate benefit cheats they are the reason this country is in such a state.

Always the ones with big families and every one of them on the dole fiddling one thing or another costs us a fortune.

So a family of five on benefits even with camerons £26,000 cap could get away with £130,000 a year and they have been doing it for the last 20 years according to various rags!
hmmm
With that possbility its not surprising so many people do it - why work!

by Omendata, 3 months ago

Oh dear Omen you were having a relaxing day too...

by serena1, 3 months ago

Yeah i am now away to make a Hawaiin stuffed crust pizza - this forum has made me hungry - if its not making me spill my earl grey its getting me mr angry!

grrrrrrr

Gonna go bash some dough....

by Omendata, 3 months ago

Makes me so mad. £26K for doing nothing??

by Jazzj, 3 months ago

I am so sick and tired of the perpetual use and variations of animal print patterns in all manner of clothing and textiles. Everywhere I look I see a form of it or a new take or colour combination of it. It is so tired and so yesterday, I absolutely can't uderstand why there is so much of it around.

by instinct, 3 months ago

Am with you there, instinct, they don't suit anyone and they're just so hideous!

by fruitcake, 3 months ago

They are in young, middle aged and more seniorstyles, I've even seen these animal prints in babies clothes- the mind boggles.

by instinct, 3 months ago

I love animal print but no way on a baby!!!

by serena1, 3 months ago

I have one leopard-y print top (in grey and black though, not leopard colours, I hasten to add! That would be too 'Dorian'!!) which I wear when I'm in the mood to wear it, but that's it!

by fruitcake, 3 months ago

Leopard print is my favourite i like it classy but some prints can look really tacky!! Nothing beats tartan eh fruity lol

by serena1, 3 months ago

Lol! Don't think I possess anything tartan! No, I lie, I have a tartan scarf, which I never wear because it itches!

I only like the ancient tartans...they have lovely soft and subtle colours. The more modern tartans are hideous!

by fruitcake, 3 months ago

Yes I like the red tartan I think it's Stewart and Ramsey. I have a tartan skirt which is years old which I love. But I do wear leopard print and love it especially scarfs. It's the only print I wear with my usual black always in black!

by serena1, 3 months ago

I can't wear red...it clashes with my hair! :-)

And I never wear scarves or anything ladylike, elegant or dressy...it's military stuff, motorbike leathers, jeans and boots for me! Am more Lara Croft than girly girly!

by fruitcake, 3 months ago

Wish I had her figure fruitcake!!

I don't liek the animal prints, but my teenager loves leopard print and it does look kinda cute on her.. I'd just look like Bet Lynch!!

by Jazzj, 3 months ago

Did I tell you fruity that a friend of mine and her boyfriend got married about 18 month's ago at the local registry office with no members of the family and no friends whatsoever. The witnesses were from the Registry Office and they got married in their motor cycle gear which is all they wanted to do. After which they went to the Isle of Man. They thoroughly enjoyed their unusual wedding and honeymoon and have no regrets whatsoever. The family in the meantime are still sulking.

by Sabre, 3 months ago

But if they've done what makes them happy, I think good for them! Too many people spend a fortune on the day and the trimmings and miss the true sense of what its all about. They could always have a party for the family and friends if they wanted to, but I'm all in favour of the day being just for them if that's what they want :)

by Jazzj, 3 months ago

Well, I must admit that if I ever married again (which I won't), I wouldn't wear my bike leathers for that! But why not...if that's what they wanted! And who cares what anyone else thinks!

by fruitcake, 3 months ago

wow

by Omendata, 3 months ago

Fruity sorry i fell asleep on you last night (not literally) didn't get your last comment till now! I love jeans and boots. I was a biker chick and the last time i was on a motorbike was three years ago i do have a friend in newcastle that comes up has a fab bike! Since i was 15 i've been on bikes i love it!! As much I'm always in jeans and knee boots (love my uggs) i do like to add a bit of feminine touch with a hat or scarf.

by serena1, 3 months ago

Do you have your own bike, Serena?

by fruitcake, 3 months ago

No fruity but i wish i did i've got my leathers! I've been on bikes from a young age and love them and my friend's husbands will take me out on it now and then. None of my friends into bikes whatsoever but i did grow up in my biker jacket and jeans and as much as i'm in the career i'm quite casual!

by serena1, 3 months ago

Ah, one day perhaps then, Serena, there's nothing like having your own bike, you get more respect from the boys, and it's much more fun, if you ride your own bike instead of being the 'ornament' on the back! ;-)

by fruitcake, 3 months ago

I might just do it one day i so love the thrill of it!

by serena1, 3 months ago

And dont forget (keeping it in a money saving thread) its cheaper to ride a bike.

On days like today though not a good idea!
Although I remmeber seeing some BMW bubble bike years ago - basically a motorbike with a big bubble you sit inside to keep you from getting wet!

Never went anywhere though id suspect.

by Omendata, 3 months ago

That's true, Omen, smaller tank to fill. I woudn't ride mine in this weather, ice is lethal, and I can't see the manhole covers under the snow!

by fruitcake, 3 months ago

I used to have a biker jacket and jeans before I was married too..toying with the idea of learning to ride

by Jazzj, 3 months ago

It is boring to see the same everywhere, I agree, perhaps we could go back to real fur, instead?
Or do you feel we should give fluffy bunnies a chance?

by greydo, 3 months ago

Now, now, greydo...naughty! :-)

by fruitcake, 3 months ago

Ooh greydo we can start another topic on fur... I love fur too :)

by serena1, 3 months ago

I love fur too, Serena, but I couldn't wear real fur!

I did years ago, when I inherited my Grandmother's (real) fur coat, I got it shortened by a furrier and wore it with jeans and boots! It fell apart eventually! I've got a great fake fur from Paris that was my mother's.

by fruitcake, 3 months ago

Fur is beautiful..on animals. Will be no surprise to anyone that I'm against wearing fur.......

by Jazzj, 3 months ago

I have a few fake furs too love them! I wouldn't ever buy real! Does anyone remember what happened to was it Naomi Campbell or some model that wore real and got paint thrown on her or something along those lines...

by serena1, 3 months ago

Not sure who it was, but there was a spate of it. No need for real fur if fake can be made just as good for those who want it

by Jazzj, 3 months ago

I think it was Naomi Campbell, I couldn't wear a real fur now, but when I was growing up everyone did, and nothing was said. Although, plenty was said about fake fur! Times and attitudes have changed!

by fruitcake, 3 months ago

So true what was once acceptable is no longer and vice versa... Society has so much influence in some cases for the better as I think in this case...

by serena1, 3 months ago

So sorry you're not well, Feline, I've only just got to the discussions as seem to be drowned in 'notifications' these days. You must be really ill if you couldn't manage to get to the pub! Really hope you bounce back soon, Sis.

The biggest thing that's making me cross at the mo on tv is that DAMNED webuyanycar.com ad is back!!! GRRRRRRR!!!

by fruitcake, 3 months ago

I know what you mean about the notifications!

by Jazzj, 3 months ago

I'm sick of seeing advertisements for future comedy programmes that are absolute rubbish. The sudden noise of the adverts drives me bonkers and one day that remote control will be out of the window. Usually I just turn the television off and sit and read my book.

by Sabre, 3 months ago

I so agree Sabre! I record whatever i need to see then watch and fast forward the adverts i honestly can't spare the time to watch the silly stupid annoying adverts!!

by serena1, 3 months ago

Adverts which concoct problems which they have identified as requiring a solution, as a justification for their new product. Skinned under-arms,not in the last 4 decades at least, once I learned how to use a razor; wrinklemeter? Davina should be more cocerned for her gender than to insult there intelligence. The female subject of the advert is ?in her 40's and is so relieved after years that she has finally found something that works. Does that mean she had the dreaded 40's wrinkles when she was years less than her current age? The antics described on some of these adverts surely do not reflect the real issues occupying real women. They do a great dis- service, also to younger women being influenced by these "values".

by instinct, 3 months ago

Towie this Towie that what a lot of balderdash!

We really must have a high percent of right guttersnipe thickos in this country if you could actually sit and watch that nonsense.

Makes my blood bile all those reality Vajazzals and no forgetting right Tajazalls like Mark Wright what a talentless little turd he is.

In answer to the question - Talentless people on the tv becoming millionaires - earning more money in one year than any of us will in a lifetime and without the skill , talent or ability our nurses and doctors , scientists have.

If Aliens came to this world in the past its no wonder they buggered off sharpish....
>:-(

by Omendata, 3 months ago

I guess you are cross about Towie Omen. Can't blame you as it's a load of bull s**t. How anyone can watch it is beyond me. yak yak yak.

by Sabre, 3 months ago

I've never seen it Sabre but it is the place the vajazzles launched etc!! It was amy childs that started the craze she was in the first series so i suppose something has come out of it as the vajazzles are quite lovely lol

by serena1, 3 months ago

What the heck are vajazzles Serena I keep asking but no one will tell me.

by Sabre, 3 months ago

Oh Sabre.
You do realise what your doing here?
It's going to open the flood gates again and i'll get accused of lowering the tone...
Ok well its jewels on a adhesive which is transferred on to the bits that are hair free on the pubic bone area so it would look inviting i suppose...lol

by serena1, 3 months ago

Goodness me sounds very painful. Must make a note to look in jewellery box tomorrow and see if i've any jewels. !!!!! Must not put on with super glue I presume.

Many thanks for your eloquently put information dear Serena I knew I could rely on you for the delicate information.

by Sabre, 3 months ago

Sabre, how on earth did you miss the thread on this a while back??? Serena taught us all many things....

by Jazzj, 3 months ago

Wasn't that Brazilian something or other and air strips etc. and I had to stand on my head to do it.

by Sabre, 3 months ago

On second thoughts I'll keep my bits and leave well alone if you know what I mean Jazzj !

by Sabre, 3 months ago

Don't blame you in the slightest Sabre!!!

by Jazzj, 3 months ago

Anytime Sabre you can me anything, what are friends for after all! I must say Jazzj is quite a fast learner!
Oh Sabre, there's no pain involved whatsoever! It's small jewels on sticky paper paper that gets pressed down and rubbed on the smooth hairless skin... :)

by serena1, 3 months ago

Its getting the smooth hairless skin in the first place that's the painful bit!

by Jazzj, 3 months ago

Not speaking from experience, but ripping hair out at the roots sounds barbaric!!

by Jazzj, 3 months ago

Well the first time is always sore then it gets easier...

by serena1, 3 months ago

You mean people do it more than once??? My friend tried it and said her boyfriend said she looked like a plucked turkey afterwards.......

by Jazzj, 3 months ago

Lol... You do make me laugh... :)

by serena1, 3 months ago

Have never ever seen TOWIE, in fact have only just worked out its a load of chavs in Essex!

by Jazzj, 3 months ago

Nor me, Jazzj, not my kind of thing!

by fruitcake, 3 months ago

We call em neds up here!

We seem to be breeding a society of dole bludging no-hopers in this country it really makes me angry this morning.

grrrrrrrrr

There is only one thing makes me more angry....
?

by Omendata, 3 months ago

thats right omen, met any neds today in your travels?

by serena1, 3 months ago

Never seen it but i can inform you Jazzj this is where the vajazzles made it big!!!

by serena1, 3 months ago

by Omendata, 3 months ago

he the guy that owns leeds united any player that is quality he sells, them then looks for players on a free transfer or on loan bates is a fraud

by bluej, 3 months ago

I see im not really into football anymore it died for me when Jock Stein died.

It all just full of violent , mysoginistic , rapists thugs and assorted gutter trash in my opinion - gone are the days of the gentleman sportsman.

I have been told I am every womans perfect delight - A man who neither watches or goes to football or any other sport at the weekend!
Shame that is the only thing though...
>;o)

by Omendata, 3 months ago

Hmmm interesting Omen what does one do in Omen's world as a way of exercise... ;)

by serena1, 3 months ago

I used to live next door to Jock Stein!

by fruitcake, 3 months ago

Wow Fruity! Was he a nice man? How would you sum him up?

by serena1, 3 months ago

I was scared of him, I was 5 years old! My father couldn't stand him though.

by fruitcake, 3 months ago

I can now always say i know someone that lived next to Jock Stein lol

by serena1, 3 months ago

Only for a year, we moved to a new house after that, not because of him though, at least I don't think so! :-)

I do remember him very well though, probably because he frightened me!

by fruitcake, 3 months ago

He was the last of the great managers but yes I can imagine he must have been a bit scary - wow fruiters you really are a star.

You gonna join the celebs?
You would be an A-Lister in my opinion though!
>)

by Omendata, 3 months ago

you are so right omendata

by bluej, 3 months ago

I didn't know who Jock Stein was at the time, my father didn't like football, so it was never on tv in our house, it was years before I realised how famous he was!

He was scary, Omen, to be honest, I think I thought he was a gangster! He did buy me an ice-cream once though, when I dropped my money down a drain while waiting at the ice-cream van, but that was probably because I burst into tears and he felt sorry for me! So he couldn't have been that bad, could he?!

The only way I'd ever make an 'A' list, is if the 'A' stood for 'Alternative'or 'Alien'... ;-)

by fruitcake, 3 months ago

I am always annoyed when "role model" sportsmen and women fail to construct simple sentences when on live TV.

by creativesaver, 3 months ago

Not just sports people, pop stars too...and people with poor diction.

And teachers who can't spell or write a grammatically correct sentence......

by Jazzj, 3 months ago

Oh, don't get me started on teachers who can't spell or construct grammatically correct sentences, Jazz...:-)

by fruitcake, 3 months ago

Grrrrrrrrr

by Feline123, 3 months ago

I had a weird feeling Feline might just have a comment about this...:-)

by fruitcake, 3 months ago

I don't like to disappoint, fruits!

by Feline123, 3 months ago

And there was I thinking I was psychic... :-)

by fruitcake, 3 months ago

Of course you are, fruits, it's all part of female multi-tasking and general superstardom!

by Feline123, 3 months ago

Of course, Feline, you're right, how could I have forgotten about female intuition... :-)

by fruitcake, 3 months ago

You didn't forget, Sis, you just filed it temporarily in the 'items pending' section of the brain.

by Feline123, 3 months ago

Ah, yes, of course, and I must have filed that explanation there too... ;-)

by fruitcake, 3 months ago

Lol

You are a star in my book,

Ice cream from Jock Stein - definitely one for the memory bank!
>;O)

Hey I am the weird one here - I bet I can out-weird you x 100.

by Omendata, 3 months ago

It really annoys me when a presenter calls a programme a show !
Also when presenters pronounce words beginning with the letter H incorrectly.
