My local Shell service station here in East Sussex has disappeared overnight to be replaced by an AppleGreen forecourt where the major selling point is that they will be the cheapest in the area or at least equal the cheapest in the area. This is in Uckfield and another Shell garage in Wadhurst has similarly been taken over by AppleGreen. So bank goes my Shell Loyalty card use!
This is an Irish company based in Dublin I understand and now beginning to penetrate the English market. Anyone else seen evidence of this company in their own area?
That's news to me Snoopy.
We've also had one or two forecourt closures in outlying areas. Nothing new as yet has sprung up.
I'll have to let you know if AppleGreen appears.
I suppose it's quite refreshing to hear of new businesses opening up instead of the opposite.
Hi Snoops I've just googled this and there are quite a few articles about AppleGreen Petrol Stations.
Haven't heard of that, Snoops, but will be on the lookout.
Never heard of them but how much are they charging per litre vis a vis previous occupier Shell? I did hear of dodgy and unlicensed petrol stations in Ireland selling dirt cheap petrol in a Panorama programme several months ago but NOT going by that name. As for Shell Loyalty card it is not that great in terms of its benefits.
You are right about the Shell Loyalty card CS ... think I achieved £2.50 coupon in one year.
Never heard of them Snoops, be interesting to see how much cheaper (if at all) they are
Am I being a total old cynic here, or is the name AppleGreen just trying to convince me that they're really cuddly and environmentally friendly?
We had an Apple Green in Enfield, North London, for a couple of years, (think it was their first in England). A few weeks ago it suddenly closed and is re-opening as a Shell!! I never used it much as I could never be bothered to queue up!! It was on the A10 a major route into London so was always busy!!
Seems strange that they have let a very busy petrol station go while still expanding in England!
