The past 6 nights have been amongst the coldest this winter on our patch of the South Coast. We have not been to switch the heaters off throughtout the evening. Expect temperatures to exceed minus 5C in the next few days in some areas folks!.
It has indeed CS, soooo cold at the moment!
Winter draws on.
I've had mine on for months, SS!
Lol feline. I confess to having thermal leggings to wear under my trousers when its freezing cold!
Nothing wrong with that, Jazz!
It's just scraping +1c on the east coast at the moment CS. I'll be donning the old bed socks tonight that's for sure.
And I'll be fighting the cats and my dog for the hot water bottle again.........
It's nice and balmy up in Yorkshire :)
Other end of the country to me, there's snow in dem der hills :)
It's kind of odd when the North is warmer than the South, isn't it?
Had to scrape the inside as well as the outside of the car this morning :(
Aaargh, Jazz, that sucks!
It does, big time!!
OK, OK... I'll admit the last couple of days have definitely been frosty!
Haven't they just??
Heating bills will rise! Creativesaver, and anyone else, here is a question. How much should a 3 bedroom house cost in total energy for all electricity, gas, wood coal etc?
Ours costs approx £1500 annually- is this typical, high or low?
Rather on the high side. Which area of the country are in? Have you thought about solar energy?
Just the thought of uk temperatures are making me feel cold, I've extended my stay a couple of thousand miles south for a while longer - it's cheaper than paying heating bills etc and far more pleasant than shivering and jibbering.
I live in what is supposed to be the `Sunny South West`
so I wish someone would inform Mother Nature of this fact.
I live not far from Dartmoor, and already we have had a week of snow.
I am not looking forward to the remainder of the winter if it is going to be like this last week!!
Going to be worse on Saturday apparently Sapphire, heard there was snow in Exeter and Plymouth too, and Bodmin. I'm going to hibernate!
does anyone know if it is better to keep your heating on constantly but lower temp, or have it on a timer to come on twice per day at a higher temp? Also the dimplex oil based plug in radiators - are they cheap to run?
I have a lovely gas fire but I may as well burn the £20 notes in it with what it probs costs...prefer to just have it for interior design pleasure!
I'm sure this was in a post not long ago and the consensus was that it was not cheaper to heat all day. No personal experience of plug in radiators I'm afraid
Yes I think you are right there Jazzj someone did a posting not long ago.
Well, our boiler is working overtime, but the need to be warm exceeds the need to turn the heating down!
It's been really cold here today Feline and I am not going to sit and be cold after the bad chests we've had. I bet you feel the same way and hope you are feeling better with your antibiotics x
Keep warm both of you
Thank you both, Sabre and Jazz.
I think on day two, the antibiotics are starting to kick in a bit, but the jury is still out on whether I really feel much better yet!
I've managed to get my act together and cook a good, old-fashioned stew. It smells good and I think it will be very comforting. Hope so!
Just the thing for this weather feline, look after yourself and dont be impatient with those antibiotics!
Glad to hear you are having a good old fashioned stew Feline it's good to be able to eat again when you've been ill. You should feel the benefit from your antibiotics by the weekend x
Get well soon Feline.
wishing you better x
Thanks so much, everybody!
The temps have dropped down to -1c this Wednesday evening on the east coast with a forecast of intermittent snow flurries.
Ugh... get that vapour rub on, plenty of hot drinks and keep warm friends.
I've been having loads of nice hot drinks today Lillie and a really nice hot bath where I sat and had a chicken oxo and also fell asleep. I woke suddenly when the telephone went. It looks like a very cold rest of the week
Awful isn't it? just when we want to cheer ourselves up.
I've actually lost all sense of taste and smell now which is yet another new twist to this ghastly flu.
As you know I love my food so I'm feeling a little sorry for myself and all of the others on here going through a similar thing..
Get well soon Lillie! Is this bug spreading through the computer?!
Thank you Sidesalad it would seem so.
It's an awful bug, hopefully you've escaped it as many people I know have had it in some form or other.
Sadly though this one is hard to shift as I've had congestion now for over a month.
The Doc says it's fairly widespread and just to carry on taking the proprietary meds...
Plenty of hot fluids and wrap up even in bed!
Minus ten here this morning, just not funny!
-4c on the east coast at the moment with buckets of snow forecast here from tonight through to tomorrow and guess what....not a gritter in sight.
Too cold for them to drag themselves outside......?
Either that or they think we can rely on the local farmers yet again to come and bail us out.
That's what we do!
