According to the news today the spice girls are set for 2012 comeback concert

by , 3 months ago

It is stated that they are reforming for a concert at Buckingham Palace on 4 June to celebrate the Queen's Diamond Jubilee.

Are you all looking forward to it as much as I am ????

I can't say I would ever look forward to a Spice Girls comeback to be honest .... or do you mean you're looking forward to the Jubilee as a whole Sabre? I doubt I'll take much notice but I hope you enjoy watching, or joining in with the celebrations.

by wendiew, 3 months ago

I have to say Wendiew that I used to love the Spice Girls much to the astonishment of my children who couldn't stand the sight of them. I have quite a few of their CDs and love to listen to their music. OK I'm a bit weird but I loved their outfits and at the time they were discovered they were so different to any of the other groups that had been on the
television. They were so full of fun and so young. I don't think they will have the same effect as all those year's ago but I bet there will be a lot of
people watching them. Yes, I'm looking forward to the Jubilee as I was tiny when I watched the Queen being crowned and it has never left my mind also the lovely book my parents' bought me is one I shall always treasure.

by Sabre, 3 months ago

I wasn't a spice girls fan I'm afraid, but I am looking forward to the jubilee celebrations, I love all the pomp and pagentry

by Jazzj, 3 months ago

o my god i hope not

by bluej, 3 months ago

I'm really looking forward to the Jubilee celebrations, which I think will bring the country a much-needed 'feelgood boost'.

But I can't help wondering about the relevance of the Spice Girls to this, apart from them wanting a much-needed income boost.

by Feline123, 3 months ago

surley they are not skint

by bluej, 3 months ago

Well, they're still the biggest selling girl group of all time, and they're British!

I think the jubilee will be celebrating Britain's successes in as many fields as possible - especially those that have occured during the Queen's reign.

Thinking of that... what if Queen reform for the do (and have guest vocalists) or The Who and The Rolling Stones also take the stage?

by G-Man, 3 months ago

Absolutely brilliant if they did G-Man I loved all of them.

by Sabre, 3 months ago

Thats not saying much G-man in an age of post Top of the pops where as you know the industry now massages all the figures to produce the Biggest selling girl group of all time - I wouldnt believe a word of it! Bananarama I say!!!!!
?;P)

by Omendata, 3 months ago

I think they have been invited to sing Feline

by Sabre, 3 months ago

Wasn't prince Charles supposed to have been a fan?

by Jazzj, 3 months ago

Yeah but he is a tw** as well so what does that tell you...

by Omendata, 3 months ago

Oh Omen you always say it as it is don't you. I tend to pussyfoot round things and wish I could say it as it is x

by Sabre, 3 months ago

sorry sabre if that the case lets bring back pj proby and mabe garry glitter, no my love let them retire and lets have some new blood

by bluej, 3 months ago

Definitely Sabre!

by G-Man, 3 months ago

The big question here is will they be singing or miming? I understand that what their vocals lacked their 'group image' made up for.

Having said that, they did take the charts by storm and it would be great to see just how well they fare should this comeback happen.

by Snoopy48, 3 months ago

Oh bluej you can't mean bring horrible Garry Glitter back - I won't say any more. Which girl group would you bring back that really took the Country by storm. None of them have appealed to me in the slightest but maybe I'm a grumpy old git. ha

by Sabre, 3 months ago

Gary Glitter - no way!

I really don't think the Queen would want him for her Jubilee celebrations.

Now Brian May at the Golden Jubilee was a whole nother story....

by Feline123, 3 months ago

I did quite like Gary Glitter at the time..what can I say,I was very young...but Brian May, wow, I've much better taste nowadays...........

by Jazzj, 3 months ago

I never rated the Spice Girls, the best girl groups were the American ones of the 60s...The Shangri-Las, The Marvelettes, The Angels, The Shirelles, Martha and the Vandellas, The Chiffons and my favourites...The Teddy Bears, The Crystals and The Ronettes. (Thank you, Phil Spector!)

by fruitcake, 3 months ago

Best of all for this would have been Queen, with Freddie!!

by fruitcake, 3 months ago

Ah Queen with Freddie absolutely out of this world and what a fantastic performer.

by Sabre, 3 months ago

I'm with you on Phil Spector, fruits. The Ronettes were my favourites.

Queen playing for the Queen - wouldn't that be something!

by Feline123, 3 months ago

What excellent taste you have, Feline!

Yes, imagine Freddie in his full robe and crown regalia strutting around belting it out for the Queen...wow! ;-)

by fruitcake, 3 months ago

Oh, fruits, I've come over all sad now....

What a sad waste of such a great talent, and a nice guy too!

by Feline123, 3 months ago

I know what you mean, Feline, a few months ago I recorded a two-part documentary on Queen that goes from when they started out right up to Freddie's death etc, including film of the last recording he did just before he died, when he was so ill he could hardly stand! And I haven't found the courage to watch it yet...I just know I'm going to cry my heart out at that bit! I play his songs a lot, and I go from exhilaration to tears every time!

by fruitcake, 3 months ago

Glitter was a lot better than the spice tw**s

QUEEN WILL NEVER BE SURPASSED

Shame on the greedy buggers they should have respected Freddie and let the legend live on and not keep creaming off it.
Queen aint queen without Freddie...

by Omendata, 3 months ago

Too right, Omen. Freddie could never be replaced.

BTW, agree with you about Bananarama!

by Feline123, 3 months ago

Bananarama? They bypassed me, got no recollection of them beyond the name......

by Jazzj, 3 months ago

Omen and Feline, I agree...there will never be another Freddie! He was very, very special!

by fruitcake, 3 months ago

he was indeed!

by Jazzj, 3 months ago

I'm no fan but my partner and our four daughters are .... I can see this being the most expensive gig I've never been to !!

by itisaphis, 3 months ago

Lol, itisaphis!

by fruitcake, 3 months ago

Is that some sort of exotic orchid fruiters?

Itisaphis hmmm
Sounds very exotic

Bit like yourself!!!
>:o()

by Omendata, 3 months ago

Hmm...I've no idea what it means, Omen, maybe it's Greek or something!

Exotic? Moi? More like just a bit strange, but thank you for the compliment, at least I think it was meant as a compliment! :-)

by fruitcake, 3 months ago

You're obviously on the mend, Omen!

by Feline123, 3 months ago

Absolutermungousisaphitis.

by Omendata, 3 months ago

If you can get yourself tickets on line for the diamond jubilee they are free so you see the concert for free - this is what I understand but don't take it as gospel. There are only so many tickets but it's not first ones who get them but I think they will be spread over the Country

by Sabre, 3 months ago

%&$!!!!!£££!!!!£!"!"!£!£!£!£!

I hope you are being funny....Utter sh***

It so annoys me these has beens making a comeback for the fans - rubbish its because they have squandered all their ill gotten gains and are back like greedy pigs at the trough of the public purse to screw more money from the already cash strapped masses - yet there are dumbos out there that will actually buy into the con - Never Mind The Boll**** I say - Its the great rock and roll swindle all over again....,

Take that....

What next???

Kylie
?

All equally crap for the ears!!

Cant see why anyone would want to pay a fortune to see someone mime to a backing tape!!!!

Beyond belief it makes me ashamed to be British that we can be so gullible...

by Omendata, 3 months ago

So much more to the point than my gentle 'I wasn't a fan I'm afraid' but I can't disagree with a word of it Omen! Saw Mud a few years back just for a laugh, and it was very refreshing to hear Les admit he was there because he was broke!!

by Jazzj, 3 months ago

Would I be right in thinking you don't like the idea of the Spice Girls singing for the Queen at her Diamond Jubilee Omen ?

by Sabre, 3 months ago

Whatever gave you that idea Sabre.................?

by Jazzj, 3 months ago

A bit harsh, Omen.. Lol! You've made all the girls cry lol!
I do like Take That and Kylie I'm not a huge fan but I have to admit take that we're quite dishy and their and Kylie songs we're quite catchy... Spice girls not my thing but I do admire posh she has done so well David Beckham what can I say!! Have you seen the underwear ad? Wow!

by serena1, 3 months ago

I just dont like the public being brazenly ripped off sabre.
Most especially by backing tape artists like Kylie and Spice tw**ts

Now Adele or Jessie J although I am not a fan I do appreciate a good voice and real live music.

If I want to listen to a backing tape I would put one on in my lounge and chill out to that - I dont see any difference between doing that and going to see one of these pseudo groups.

Although I will say Boyzone and Take that did have a modicum of talent.

No offence meant just had a bit of a bad day yesterday.
Got this nasty flu thats going around so I am extra grumpy this week been off work so not looking forward to going back tomorrow grrrrrrrrrrr

by Omendata, 3 months ago

Sorry to hear you feeling unwell Omen. I should stop in bed tomorrow and blow work if you are still feeling ill. I understand what you are saying about the Spice girls and I think all those year's ago they were so different and lively it gave you an uplift. I know there are far better singers so let's hope the Queen asks some of those to sing as well.

by Sabre, 3 months ago

Thats a shame Omen you not feeling well man flu i hear is bad!! Sorry Omen i couldn't resist! Is that whats keeping you up all night(logging in at 3am lol)

No offence taken regarding the spice girls but you have to admit they have done exceptionally well. I've never got into the whole boyzone or westlife but did like take that. Jesse Jay, Lady Gaga and Emelie Sande are all brilliant new artists that have amazing voices!
Do wrap up warm and don't forget to take your medicine, Omen x

by serena1, 3 months ago

Sorry to hear you've got the nasty bug, Omen. I'm just about over it now, so I know you will come out the other side.

Keep warm!

by Feline123, 3 months ago

I just took a pill.

>;o)

Got my furry blanket.

Cadburys cream egg and cuppa early grey so i should be ok for a minute or two...

Oh and not forgetting my very good Money.co.uk virtual friendies!!!

by Omendata, 3 months ago

Oh, where would we be without our virtual friends, Omen?

I sometimes think they're better than the un-vrtual ones!

by Feline123, 3 months ago

Hmmmm Feline!
Beginning to wonder myself lol!

by serena1, 3 months ago

Me and the lads used to love driving back from a day out at Largs or CUlzean on a wet Sunday listening to the real chart show where we actually knew what was number 1 - does anybody really care now - its a sad fact of life with the advent of the mp3 and internet streaming there is no exacting way to measure the success of a single now so its all guesswork and massaging the figures - I dont think I have listened to the sunday chart show now for over 10 years maybe more as it just doesnt say anything - doesnt represent real life!

I now miss the 80's Soft Cell , Dm , Omd , Erasure even the groups i never liked like the cure or Duran or the Police - we simply as Sting and many other artists from that era have said have just manufactured artists with no ability to play a real instrument - even electro groups like Omd or my fave Yazoo could play and sing - Alison Moyet - Simply the greatest female singer ever - Adele comes close but not quite!

by Omendata, 3 months ago

Alison Moyet - sheer brilliance!

by Feline123, 3 months ago

It takes me back listening to the Dr on Clyde 1 the charts on a Sunday and waiting to hear the number one!
The 80s were fantastic I loved Duran Duran, Abc, Ub40, Depeche Mode, Culture Club among many more! Good taste Omen I liked Alison Moyet too!

by serena1, 3 months ago

Oh yes, Alison Moyet has a brilliant voice!

I loved Duran Duran, UB40 and Culture Club too, serena. I've always loved Nick Rhodes! Saw ABC live, but was never very keen on them, I'm afraid. Saw both Duran Duran and Culture Club live. Boy George had the most beautiful voice, sweet yet immensely powerful, hearing him sing 'Victims' live reduced me to floods of tears!

Soft Cell were fab, Omen, I've always adored Marc Almond!

by fruitcake, 3 months ago

Did anyone see Depeche Mode 101 concert documentary on Friday!!!

Amazing I never picked up on it but do you notice at the end of the documentary the managers were all talking about how much money they had screwed out of the fans for t-shirts etc then Depeche Mode final tune was "Everything Counts..."

Perfect - says it all really!

Watch it!

Dont forget Bronski Beat either fruiters - Hit that perfect beat boy beat boy!!!

Gay but great stuff!

Funny but all the great stuff was gay - Bronski Beat , Communards , Culture Club , Omd , Soft Cell lol

Guess they dont play any of that in Afghanistan!
What a grey world it must be to live in the middle east!

by Omendata, 3 months ago

I missed that Omen! Didn't hear about it I'll try and watch it on catch up if I can. I liked the duet Marc Almond done with Gene Pitney was it? Communards great! I loved Duran Duran and in fact I think Simon Le Bon's wife is stunning obviously she would be being a model! I named my daughter Yasmin after her. She still looks the same as she did 20 years ago!

by serena1, 3 months ago

Oh yes, Omen, Jimmy Somerville has a great voice too, and like all gay men he was a fab little dancer!

Oh, and the Fine Young Cannibals were cool too...I fell in love with Roland Gift! He had such an unusual face!

by fruitcake, 3 months ago

Oh Deacon Blue was good too! Hue and cry! It's all coming back lol!

by serena1, 3 months ago

Yes Fruity your right what is it we're back to the unusual face thing again... Lol

by serena1, 3 months ago

Oh, yeah, serena, so we are! Well, I am, anyway, I like people that look a little different... :-)

by fruitcake, 3 months ago

Me too! I saw that Tom Hardy this week in a film what a dish! He's been in so many films what a great actor too not just eye candy! Lol!

by serena1, 3 months ago

I just wish some lucky musical artists such as Spice Girls would retire from the music world with an air of dignity.I wonder which other artist would be making an unmerited return (maybe Spandau Ballet to sing "Gold" for the Olympics.
