Now for the first bad insurance news of 2012. Unfortunately Households affected by the stormy weather sweeping the UK will not always be covered by their home insurance. Although insurers would tell you that all claims will be viewed on a case-by-case basis, in general, fences, gates and movable property are not covered in the event of a storm. The get out clause is often because it is an act of God.
Hi cs I was just saying that in a post to fruity last night! We have had severe gales on the early hours of tues and my poor back garden is a mess! The fences between the neighbours have all been affected also sheds have been blown about destroyed and quite a few fallen trees! We have all been told it's not covered by the insurance! There's been so much damaged and we all have lost out with the weather. While I'm mentioning the materialistic side I'm sure there's been a few accidents causing injuries to people too!!! We do take insurance out to cover things happening I think they should cover things like this if it was in good condition to begin with gardens that are maintained even it might mean you would have an option to pay an extra small amount to cover I think it would be something I would consider. I've got a man coming out tomo to give me and my neighbours quotes. I'm just hoping as I've organised this and hopefully we will get a good price as he might get to do the whole row of houses the price is right!
No surprises there for me CS as I have in the past made claims for exterior property damage only to have fallen foul of the small print.
I've often wondered if insurance is worth the paper it's printed on and found Pet Cover to be the worst for 'get out clauses'.
Agreed..we lost all our fences in storms shortly after moving in year 2000.. insurance would not pay...when replacing I used concrete posts..concrete plinths..panels between...so far ..no damage...

We've had very minor damage here in my area of the east coast Serena so I feel we've been lucky.
The noise last night kept me awake though and I fully expected to see the shed roof missing and the fence down but it's all still there thank goodness.
It's still in fact very blustery but should quieten down this evening.
Hope 'your man' is in a good mood and is at least fair in his pricing. Good luck with that!
Hi Lillie I hope you don't get any damage like we have had! My gardener did come today and seemed very attentive and quite good but my neighbour wants a few quotes and she has a man coming out tomo and I will let her deal with that one and hopefully my man gets the job as he is my regular gardener and he is very good! I really don't want to be in an awkward situation I like my gardener's workmanship so this may continue for a wee while lol
