I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas and made the most of the festive break.
Personally I'm all partied out and I'm now languishing in some long time coming 'me-time'.
Yes I've been flat out all through December supporting the family through Nativities, concerts and yes various seasonal illnesses which has laid most of the family low at some point.
Hope you've all managed to avoid those ever present 'bugs' that plague us during the cooler months, they're no fun that's for sure especially when you're a person of a certain age. I feel these ailments are harder and take longer to shrug off as one gets older.
Also have any of you found any real bargains in the sales?
Not me yet but I haven't given up and will be out next weekend looking for a deal on a new sofa.
I see the ads as usual at this time of year are everywhere offering the sale of the century so I shall take my time and peruse the shops for a good reliable grandchild proof version, if there is such a thing.
Once again here's wishing you all the best for 2012 and the tolerance to cope with whatever Gov throws at us, I have a feeling we're going to need lots of it.
Happy New Year to you too Lillie and glad you had a good one.
Happy New Year to you and yours, Lillie, I've missed you on the Forum lately. Sorry to hear about the bugs.
As for bargains in the sales........
We didn't go out looking for a bargain, but Mr F needed a new suit. Normally I wouldn't go near the shops in January but I thought, 'It will be OK, we've got a disabled badge so we'll be able to park in the shopping centre'.
25 minutes drive to Milton Keynes, 25 minutes driving round looking for a space (most disabled spaces occupied by completely able-bodied people - and I use the word 'people' advisedly!) 25 minutes driving home.
Would have gone to the pub for a pint but it was closed for a funeral!
Will try again next month.
Thanks Feline I missed you too.
I understand how you feel re parking issues. As an able bodied driver and passenger I know how irritating, to say the least, it can be for disabled drivers having their spaces filled by those inconsiderate and uncaring 'people'.
Thanks, Lillie. If only the public at large were as caring as our Forum members!
I've told people off for doing that before now, but these days (because you never know if they're going to turn violent!) I just give them a hard stare and pretend to clock their number plate!
Absolutely, fruits.
There was a time I would have squared up to them but I'm a wimp now!
Hello Lillie, nice to see you here again! Best wishes for the new year. Haven't bought anything at all in the sales, can't stand going in crowded shops, bust best of luck with your search for a grandchild-proof sofa :)
Thanks Jazzj, I'm on a mission now to get the best deal possible and hopefully I won't have to queue as I too hate crowds.
Happy New Year, Lillie, lovely to see you back again, and sorry to hear about the bugs, I blame the milder weather for those, a good 'cold snap' kills them all off.
Haven't been near the sales, not my thing, I hate shopping.
Re a grandchild proof sofa...have you considered a leather one? Repels drinks and can be wiped clean with no harm done, you can just polish the bit that got damp with a bit of leather food. I use the bikers fave (Renapur)...works a treat!
Thanks fruity, we're all on the 'up' now thank goodness.
All sofa's will be considered especially the easily cleaned and hard wearing kind.
Happy new year, Lillie!
Like yourself i've hardly been on the forum i've been so busy with work etc. Dec and xmas and new year is such a busy time for everyone i think. I do envy folk that don't have busy time and take it in their stride.
Talking about the weather being milder up here in Glasgow its been horrendous early hours there was gale force winds i got woken up at 4am with it at some points my house was going to blow away!! It was very scary indeed! My garden is a mess with the fence destroyed from all angles. Anyway thankfully it's over the winds that is, being told snow is on its way! The joys!
I haven't been in the sales much i did go today to get my daughter last minute items she needed for her skiing trip she's going to colorado next week.
I have been going out for lunches and dinners catching up with friends its so good to do that.
All the best for 2012 and i'm looking forward for the good posts continuing!
I saw the bits of film re the storms in Scotland on the BBC news website, Serena, I'm Scottish so have family there, and it looked terrible! Wind was up to 100mph in some places!
It's not quite so bad down here, although a man was killed in Kent when a tree fell on his van, another man died, and another was seriously injured when a tree fell on a bus.
I'm in Somerset, and it's been a bit 'wild' for a couple of days, hoping it doesn't get any worse, and I hope you all remain safe too. Sorry to hear about your garden!
Thanks fruity! It was horrific and the met office had red warnings on their site! It was just over 100mph i heard. The motorways and so many roads where closed, trees fallen etc. It's awful to hear off deaths related i've not heard of any contecting to it up here yet.
Just as well i was off work till fri as my busy spell has passed! I'm trying to spend time with my daughter before she goes to her trip. I had to cancel lunch with a friend.
The best bit is you will not believe it but my daughter slept thru the whole night and woke up at midday none the wiser and she had a great sleep!!! Lol!
That's teens for you!! :-)
I think the fact that so many motorways and roads were closed in Scotland saved a lot of possible deaths there, at least that's what the news reporter said.
Also, quite frankly, I think we Scots are more sensible about not going out in dangerous conditions. I've noticed that in England, or at least in the more southern parts, people just carry on regardless and then wonder why these things happen!
Waiting for the flak now... :-)
Oh dear fruity! I've got your back!! Lol :)
I did hear the news saying the fact it was a holiday some offices and of course the schools off all helped not much traffic thankfully!
My friend was expecting me to still go and drive in that weather my and pick her up at twelve o'clock today after i did text her 9am to cancel! I was not leaving my house unless i had to be evaucated!!! lol
It must have been terrifying for your Serena you have my sympathy. I hate the dreadful winds. Behind our property is a large band of trees then farmers fields and the trees blow backwards and forwards and sideways depending which way the wind is blowing and when it was bad last year a couple of them split down the middle. Fortunately, they didn't land on our property but went backwards into the fields. It's very windy again today in Yorkshire and blows you off your feet. Take care Love Sabre x
Its been 70mph winds where I am too Serena, laying in bed the other night listening to things creaking (distracted me from the mice!), and spent the following morning looking for the dustbins that had blown away :)
Thank you for that Serena.
Good to see you again and yes those windy conditions sound scary in the extreme.
It was pretty grim here on the east coast but nothing quite like your scenario.
We did have some flash storms yesterday though which were alarming and a little freaky as one moment it was so mild and now today the temps have plummeted once again, very strange.
So sorry for everyone who's suffered damage, especially those who are now without power. One small section of trellis on top of our fence blew down so we've been very lucky, even if it did keep me awake all night.
I was reminded of the 1987 hurricane, in the days when I used to be able to sleep for England. I got up as normal, realised there was a power cut so didn't hear the weather reports on the radio. Set off for the station and thought the car park was a bit empty, then realised there were no trains and the country had ground to a halt.
Went home and went back to bed!
Been very windy here today, and wild again tonight, got blown around and soaked on my way home. My recycling box had been visiting all the neighbours, I think! I do worry a bit at night, as we have got massive trees in the garden, two are just feet from my flat, but not a lot I can do about it!
