In normal circumstances the answer should be yes but in this instance with so much global economic instability particularly within the Eurozone I predict NOT this year.
why not this year , i know that several years ago ,in Beijing
they improve the economy from the Olympics ,though great difference between the two country of UK and China, but if those who follow these could find a good way , that i m sure we will profit great from it !
good luck !
Not at all.
The Olympics will prove a welcome diversion to the ills of this country especially if Team GB does well in the medals table.
But wealth in this country is disproportionately concentrated and held by the few. What the economy needs is for that wealth to be distributed so as to greatly influence people's purchasing power. With the cost of everything going up and the amount of earned income being stretched I cannot see how four weeks in August will change anything.
Some businesses will benefit from the services they provide and the uptake will possibly increase with the influx of greater tourist numbers but overall 2012 will continue to be a challenging year for the oridinary person.
No the security costs will far out weigh any improvement to the economy.
No - not according to the blinking news of doom and gloom today - all the same horrible news as last year and we are only two day's into it. We shall be saying the same this time next year I suppose.
My view is a resounding no! I am hearing that Cameron is trying to raise spirits on the back of the London Olympics but it's just not going to make much of a dent in the British economy. The only popularity that this country currently offers is found by the people that come here purely to get what they cannot get elsewhere and that needs to change. Of course some people will create a thriving business out of the Olympics and its spin off trade but alas it is short lived. I believe we are in for a very depressed year and if I am honest I think that would be the case whatever government is in power.
No, because as some witty wag said recently, the Olympics and the Diamond Jubilee are 'all fur coat and no knickers!'
Ah, my dear Sister, the only thing we ever seem to disagree about is being a Royalist or not!
I do actually have hopes that the Diamomd Jubilee will give a boost to the economy. But the jury was out until New Year's Day when thousands of well-wishers turned out to see Prince Philip.
As for the Olympics - I don't think so.
BTW 'All fur coat and no knickers' took me back a bit!
Oh, we just agree to disagree on the Monarchy!
As for the Diamond Jubilee, no doubt there will be a huge demand in teatowels... :-)
Re 'all fur coat and no knickers'...I was about 8 the first time I heard my mother say it about a woman who lived near us! ;-)
Same here, fruits re the fur coat thing. And I probably need some new tea towels!
Not to make knickers out of, I hope! ;-)
Fruits, you deliberately waited until I'd poured a glass of wine to post that didn't you?!!!!
I need Omen and the Tena Pants........
Like Royal Weddings designed to take the anger out of the public may I add at great expense to the nation.
not when they give the derby train makers jobs to the germany
That is a very good point indeed, bluej!
its a shame feline 123 we need to put our own people to work in this country
As someone who was born in Derby and worked most of my life in the railway industry, bluej, I agree with you totally.
