Hi again money friends, do you like lemons?

by , 6 months ago

I found this article interesting.

http://uk.lifestyle.yahoo.com/lemon-aid-ten-uses-for-lemons-around-the-home.html

I like lemon tea, a drop of lemonade now and again and fresh lemon squeezed on my pancakes, etc..

According to the link above there are at least ten uses for the common lemon some of which I have heard about and in fact used.

I thought you may also be interested and could possibly think of a few more ideas, what do you think?

I think this is the article I was reading earlier Lillie and there are some very good tips. I always use lemons when I do Salmon dishes and love some in a glass of lemonade or squeezed and hot water over with a couple of sweeteners. I also like black tea with a slice of lemon. In my younger day's I use to suck a lemon but teeth have aged and they ache if I do that.

by Sabre, 6 months ago

Thanks Sabre, ooh now sucking a lemon, aargh my teeth go on edge at the very thought.
Being fair haired though I do add a little lemon in the final rinse. It leaves my hair shiny and fresh smelling too.

by LILLIE, 6 months ago

The link seems to have spun off into the ether somewhere so I'll try again with this one.

by LILLIE, 6 months ago

I like them for a number of things but mainly on my pancakes with brown sugar.
I have blonde hair and use lemons for rinsing, have done for years.

by Rosiee, 6 months ago

Yummy me too, thanks Rosie. One of my other favourites happens to be lemon meringue pie, the way my late mother used to make it. Somehow just can't seem to get it quite as fluffy and crisp the way she could.

by LILLIE, 6 months ago

I wish I could make my Fathers beef stew, somehow his dumplings come out huge and so soft, I can't make them like that, mine could be used as ammunition.

by Rosiee, 6 months ago

I love lemons, Lillie. I use them for all the usual things, to get rid of fridge pongs, to get some stains out, to clean saucepans, to make lemon meringue pie (mmm!), on pancakes, in drinks, to make real lemonade, to make lemon curd, on fish, on salads etc etc.

by fruitcake, 6 months ago

Thanks fruity, just to add that a bag of lemons is so much cheaper than certain cleaning products and more environmentally friendly.

by LILLIE, 6 months ago

Absolutely, Lillie and you can't put Cillit Bang in your gin! ;-)

by fruitcake, 6 months ago

Oh Lolll, my eyes are watering at the thought, actually how about a dash of Mr Muscle just for that extra spiciness...hmmm.

by LILLIE, 6 months ago

If you buy a big net of lemons, which is much cheaper than buying them singly, and you think you won't use them all before they go off, cut the excess ones into wedges and freeze them in ice cubes, then just pop one or two out into your gin & tonic.

by Feline123, 4 months ago

Excellent advice there Feline thank you,, I'm all for embellishing the grand tipple with a slice of lemon and/or lime.

by LILLIE, 4 months ago

Have you tried lemon ice cream Lillie? It's delicious!!

by AlwynP, 4 months ago

No I haven't Alwyn, although I have made lemon sorbet and find it wonderfully refreshing. Thanks

by LILLIE, 4 months ago

Haven't come across that Alwyn, do you make it yourself? I love lemon sorbet, but I don't like it too sweet

by Jazzj, 4 months ago

I love lemon sorbet too, especially if it's sharp...yum!

Alwyn, do you make your own lemon ice cream? And if so, have you got a good recipe?

by fruitcake, 4 months ago

Love the bit about "make for an inexpensive alternative to a floral arrangement" ... could almost be 'Life is just a bowl of lemons' ... tra la la!

Have to admit, rarely buy the things but have used them for a wedgie in iced drinks and squeezing into a hot whisky and honey toddy when the old brow is feverish. Apart from that, there's always the odd 'naked suck' if you can stand it!

by Snoopy48, 4 months ago

Yes Snoopy Ice and a slice works for me too especially in a drop of gin.

As for a 'naked suck' ooh the very thought makes me wince and draw my knees up to my chin....

by LILLIE, 4 months ago

Actually Lillie it's very stimulating .... and if you have mercury fillings, the combination can generate a small electrical current that can cause bodily twitching ....

by Snoopy48, 4 months ago

Yes I have a few mercury fillings Snoopy perhaps with those and enough lemon juice I could power a small appliance.

by LILLIE, 4 months ago

Exactly what sort of small appliance were you thinking of, Lillie.....?

by Feline123, 4 months ago

Maybe a little hand whisk??

by LILLIE, 4 months ago

Yes I was wondering what Lillie was referring to Feline - being a bit naughty again me thinks !!!!!

by Sabre, 4 months ago

Frankly, this discussion sucks ....

by Snoopy48, 4 months ago

Quite agree Snoops not a discussion for the pure and simple like you and me. I would close your ears to it and not be drawn in - keep your dignity and ignore the sisters.

by Sabre, 4 months ago

Simple.................? Pure???? lol

by Jazzj, 4 months ago

Something you want to ask, Jazz?

by Snoopy48, 4 months ago

A little hand whisk, Lillie? You mean something with interchangeable heads, like rabbit whiskers?

by Snoopy48, 4 months ago

I didn't realise you could get rabbits with interchangeable whiskers. You seem to know a lot about this, Snoops.....

by Feline123, 4 months ago

Not really Feline ... I have led a pretty sheltered life when it comes to such things. I just bluff my way through it when the subject comes up.

But I have noticed a local deli selling these things alongside the Quorn .... apparently, they are both meat substitutes ....

by Snoopy48, 4 months ago

A deli with rabbit's whiskers Snoopy whatever next or have I got the wrong end of the conversation ?

by Sabre, 4 months ago

Fell off chair!

by Feline123, 4 months ago

I did hear of a woman who visited the local A&E department with one of these little gizmos firmly stuck 'in place'. When the doctor examined her and asked her if she'd like it removed, she simply said 'No, but can you change the batteries' .....

by Snoopy48, 4 months ago

Oh Lordy I'm on the floor with Feline here, from lemons to rabbits gizmos just how diverse is that???

by LILLIE, 4 months ago

Diversity at the flick of a switch, eh Lillie?

by Snoopy48, 4 months ago

I'm all for a little diversification Snoopy with or without a switch...

by LILLIE, 4 months ago

Good grief - amazing what I can miss in the few hours I'm at swimming!!

by Jazzj, 4 months ago

Hope you enjoyed your swim Jazzj. I must say I look in here now in pure trepidation of what's being said next.

by LILLIE, 4 months ago

So was I right or was I wrong and the deli and the whiskers what about them then. Glad you had a good laugh it does you the world of good but honestly I'm just still in the dark please put me out of my misery and tell me what you are talking about my lovely friends !!!!

p.s. Referring to Snoopy's posting. What have the gizmos to do with the rabbit's whiskers. I presume he is being very rude again about a women's private bits. I've lost the plot now.

by Sabre, 4 months ago

Sabre, yes, Snoopy is being very rude indeed.

Just think back to Lillie's 'small appliance' and let your imagination run riot!

by Feline123, 4 months ago

MLS ... TLOY!

by Snoopy48, 4 months ago

Lemons are a wonderful fruit. A drop of lemon juice can spritz up the flavour of all sorts or dishes and can be a help adding and enhancing flavour if you are reducing salt in your diet. I prefer to use unwaxed lemons if possible but if not available I give them a good scrub to remove any treatment they may have had. It's worth removing the zest first if you are going to use the lemon for juice. You can then chop the zest finely and freeze for use in cakes or sauces.

by Sidesalad, 4 months ago

Thanks again Sidesald, good point about the wax. I have a special short bristle brush for de-waxing both lemons and limes, it comes in useful for scrubbing jacket potatoes too.

by LILLIE, 4 months ago

Yes great antiseptic too if you are lost in the wilderness and need to clean up a cut Bear Grylls stylee.

lol

>;p)

by Omendata, 4 months ago

Good point Omend yes it's a great antiseptic, thanks.

by LILLIE, 4 months ago

There are a whole lot of ideas here http://www.electriclemon.net/101/21lemonpie.htm

by Sidesalad, 4 months ago

Great link Sidesalad,thanks.

by LILLIE, 4 months ago

Very useful, Sidesalad, thanks!

by fruitcake, 4 months ago

For some reason I always have problems with the 'edit' function when I add comments or correct something I have written using my iPad. Anyway, I wanted to add that I like to preserve lemons in brine to make Moroccan dishes (much cheaper than buying ready done) and I love lemon drizzle cake.

by Sidesalad, 4 months ago

Thanks Sidesalad, you certainly know your way around a lemon therefore I anoint you 'queen of lemons'.

by LILLIE, 4 months ago

I am indeed honoured Lillie!

by Sidesalad, 4 months ago

Ipad wow never realised you were so rich Side parsnip!

You a yuppy now?

by Omendata, 4 months ago

Yes Omen - it's so convenient for my private plane and of course on the yacht.

by Sidesalad, 4 months ago

LOL, Sidesalad!

by Feline123, 4 months ago

by Omendata, 4 months ago

Try lemon sole in a parsley and lemon butter sauce.
Has to be lurpak though!

I think that was the meal that got me into lemons!

The Portpatrick hotel can even remember where I ate it!

Funny how you remember smells and tastes but not peoples names , facts figures!!!

by Omendata, 4 months ago

Thanks, sounds delicious. I'm quite partial to Dover sole with a light fluffy lemon drizzle. It's always a treat for me when dining out which is a rare thing these days.

by LILLIE, 4 months ago

I seem to remember making a battery out of a lemon when I was a kid, stick a copper nail and a steel nail in it maybe.
