Thanks:) for that tip Serena I'll see if it works but i doubt not! When ever I spend, I get this nice overwhelming feeling inside whether it's giving money to charity, buying a top or even simply a cookie!! I like that feeling!! :D do you ever get that feeling? Isn't it so nice!?!

It can be a nice feeling, MissSuperstar, but it's also an equally nice feeling to have some money saved up for the sorts of things you mentioned! Why not give it a try, maybe start with a small amount every month and see if you like the feeling... :-)

When you want to buy something, ask yourself if you really need it. If not, then put the money you would have spent in tour savings account.

spending on aspirational whims - this is a very good discussion to have just before xmas. I think a lot of it is discipline really. Questions like "do i really need it" and is it essential. I am one for buying online and when i do, i look for voucher codes, discounts etc. My company are in the process of writing a budgeting guide / education pack and we are going to make it downloadable for everyone, not just clients. Should be up in a few weeks and will ask the forum moderators if I am allowed to post the link.

Ask yourself if you really need it, then wait a week and ask yourself again! If the answer is that you have to have it, can you get it cheaper? Shop around, get the best deal you can, comparing vouchers, special offers, points etc, and negotiate in the shops for delivery on the big things

The best way to save money MissSupestar is to have a few night's in instead of going out on the town. Invite friends down for a nice meal.
It needn't be an expensive one especially if everyone chips in. Have a girly night doing each other's nails and have a pampering time. A make up party doesn't cost much and what about friends bringing clothes down that they no longer want and do a swop with each other.
You will save pounds on shop shop shopping.
A few bottles of wine make the night and that's not expensive either from the supermarket. Enjoy yourself you sound as if you have a good time.

The best way is to invest the money you have saved in decent investment vehicles to accumulate wealth and provide a decent pension provision because you cannot rely on any government to provide for your future.

I think that the best/easiest way to ensure that you save some money is to never see it. What I mean by that is to have a set amount transferred into a savings account every month on the day you get paid. Look at your budget for things that have to be paid such as rent, phone, travel, lunches etc etc, then items that you need each quarter - say clothes, shoes or whatever. Calculate what is left then decide on an amount that you will save and set up a standing payment into a savings account. You can review the amount every six or twelve months and hopefully increase it if you start to earn more.

I understand the excitement of buying something new, but remember how short-lived it is. Like a drug you know that you will need to do it again soon so although it's so boring to hear, you need to break the habit before you start to overspend and get into debt.

Use all of the good advice everyone has offered!
