According to one research one in three workers do not take a lunch break at work, saying they have too much to do and cannot afford to take time out. Moreover, workers are also more likely to eat unhealthily during the day, snacking on crisps or chocolate rather than buying healthy snacks, the study by Aviva Health showed. How un-healthy this must be
Does this sound familiar to anyone? Is it not just a sign of what 21st Century work place is becoming practically everywhere in the developed world where increasing workplace pressures to meet targets are stopping staff from taking the breaks they need?
No CS I've never missed lunch and neither has hubby.
As I have blood sugar issues it certainly isn't advisable for me or anyone else for that matter.
I'm sure many people miss out on breakfast too which to me is the most important meal of the day.
Surely the level of work would be better and more accomplished if one took a few minutes to refuel healthily
Because I have blood sugar issues I cannot miss any meals or I would be ill. Saying that I am retired so it isn't the same as being in employment and on occasions when working I have had to miss the occasional meal.
One member of my family regularly skips their meal as they are so busy they haven't the time to eat or go out for a sandwich. I don't think this is right and have told them to take a sandwich with them but they don't listen.
To stay healthy you need a good breakfast, light lunch and a good healthy evening meal. A lot of people can't be bothered to cook so spend a lot on take aways. I know this is very easy and when you're tired it must be much simpler but you don't get the goodness of the food you are eating thus leading to problems in later life.
That is one reason I gave up full time work. I often didn't manage to get any time to eat lunch at all but if I did then it was a maximum of 15 minutes usually whilst doing something else.
I did make sure I had breakfast every day though.
I have missed lunch a couple of times, and some weeks it was on a few occasions. However, I would always have my lunch later on around 3/4pm. I never miss breakfast or evening meal. Towards the end of my last job I was so fed up with the endless pressure and stress that I made sure I had a healthy lunch every day. It is so important to be healthy and happy - no job is worth sacrificing health and happiness.
Good for you Lana. You need to have your meals during the day or you will suffer later in life. It makes you feel tired and weary lack of food so look after yourself.
I know everyone's right about not skipping meals but who honestly takes a whole lunch hour? i can't think that I ever have, and frequently have worked right through lunch after arriving early and leaving late..there is an argument that the longer you work the less effective you are but so many people have the threat of redundancy hanging over them that 'face time' in the workplace is felt to be essential
In a way, I guess this is all about the individual and how he or she perceives work stress. I work a long day on occasions, in but mainly out of the office and seldom have a regular break for a sandwich and tea because I 'perceive' a lot of stress in making sure my work is ready to take out. But alongside me there are the stalwarts who can be seen, day after day, having the same hour to the minute where they completely divorce themselves from the work scene and nothing will change them. In a way, I wish I could be like them but I have a lot of outside responsibility and a lot of that occurs outside office hours with zero support and therefore has to be prepared to the letter. And losing a lunch hour would invade my ability to do that.
But it's swings and roundabouts as well ... when I am out, I can always stop for coffee or pop into the supermarket, and as such have a fair amount of freedom especially when it comes to setting my schedule. Perhaps, when I finally retire, I may well miss the stimulation of work stress!
what you say is your individual point ,but the OP show that most of us should face with the work stress in a correct way ! i agree that , a good habit in work not only good for health but also helpful for work ! work stress sometimes is just the excuses of us !
