Hello again money friends, what is a typical Sunday like for you

by , 9 months ago

Do you go to church, have a traditional roast dinner, go for a stroll afterwards to walk it off, crash on the couch etc.. Or is it pretty much like any other day of the week?

I find the roasts are becoming a bit of a luxury these days especially a good joint of beef, but hubby likes his Sunday tradition and it hasn't really altered much over the years.

How about you?

After being awakened at 6 a.m. with a mug of tea, cornflakes and toast and my husband busy getting ready for a trip to Leyburn with his walking club I decided to have a good day cleaning. I had four loads of washing as I merrily stripped the bed and emptied the yet again full wash basket and then proceeded to wash all the hubby's working clothes till my line was sagging and I had to wait to refill it again. This was followed by shampooing carpets, lots of gardening and watering all the hanging baskets. A 10 minute lunch break before I did a pile of ironing. Did all the other mundane jobs and felt quite satisfied with the day's work. All was gleaming until my husband came home at 10 p.m. with all his walking gear to be washed, packing up boxes to be washed and needing a shower which then needed washing - so much for getting all the work done it will need doing again tomorrow. I wondered why I had worked so hard when I could have had a nice day in the sun swinging on my hammock! - such is life and one has to have a sense of humour.

My mother used to say, 'A womans work is never done' Sabre, you've just proved the point!

Crumbs Sabre, that sounds exhausting.
Now today is lovely warm and bright I suggest you climb in that hammock and start swinging, no point in burning yourself out.

Sunday is spent recovering from Friday night and Saturday. Friday night is 'no-sleep' night, worrying about the state of the cottage when guests leave. Saturday is seriously exhausting have to do changeover in the cottage (you would not believe how disusting some people leave it), so Sunday really is crash-out day, watch the Formula 1, eat cakes and biccys, o/h may go off fishing etc. Rarely enough energy to attempt a Sunday roast but that would be oh so nice!

Wendiew - what a pain that half of next years F1 races are going to be on Sky rather than BBC. I refuse to pay the exorbitant cost of Sky TV just to see F1. Will miss doing the ironing whilst watching the race.

by Sidesalad, 9 months ago

Hubby says the same thing Sidesalad,it's a shame that Sky is allowed to monopolise sporting fixtures like this.

by LILLIE, 9 months ago

I can well believe it Wendi, as ex forces we used to and always left our home in pristine condition ready for the next family to move into.

It wasn't always reciprocated though and we took over some right dumps in our time and had to don rubber gloves and scrub the place from top to bottom before I would deem to step foot in the place.

So yes I can imagine only too well what you have to face, only hope it's not like that all the time for you.

Don't get me started on the F1 moving to Sky thing. I am SO angry about it. Bernie Eccleston is a total &*£Y^£^%%£&(*&** who goes on about giving THE FANS a good show but actually doesn't give a monkeys about anything except more millions in his pocket. I'm not going back to Sky just to see live F1, that's a monthly subscription of apx £20 PLUS Sky Sports package (god knows what that costs), PLUS a Pay To View charge for every race!!!!!!!! He is making F1 a rich-people-only sport and it sucks!
A couple of years ago we went to the Silverstone GP and hated every minute of it because we bought 'general' tickets for the whole weekend. Well us 'general public' were made to feel SO inferior to those with posh VIP/Paddock tickets, it was just horrible. Never again.
Rant over.
For now.

Yes, LILLIE, I remember Army days of moving out of quarters. Every mark on the wall had to be cleaned off, the 20 year old cooker had to look like new, everything had to be spangling .... and if it wasn't you would be charged the full cost of replacement/redecorating.
I hold a £100 damages deposit which guests get back when the cottage is left cleaned and with no damages. NO ONE EVER does ANY cleaning. They pack up their own belongings and leave. They leave their dirty dishes, food on the carpets (and in places you wouldn't believe), burnt-on-yuk on pans and oven trays ..... it is truly gobsmacking! Of course, like a pratt I just clear and clean everything up and as long as there's no permanent or very expensive damage I send them the deposit back. Why? Cos I am too flippin' soft! My ex was a Sergeant-Major, I bet if they were faced with him and his stick, yelling out the side of his mouth, they'd soon jump to it! :) Gosh, sorry .... will try and shut up for the rest of the day now :)

Deep breaths now Wendi, I expect your poor little fingers are worn down to the bone.

Yes some people live like animals which is probably the wrong thing to say as I know some animals are a darn sight cleaner.

As for Bernie (greedy plonker) Ecclestone yes it's all been said in this house recently too.

Ooh gin time methinks.....

by LILLIE, 9 months ago

Oooh Wendiew - excellent rant! I'm glad someone else on here feels as annoyed as I do. I thought the cost of Sky was bad enough but I didn't realise that you would have to pay an additional pay-to-view cost. Bernie certainly doesn't give a monkeys about the F1 fans. We just don't have enough money for him. He wants corporate money.

Oh yes, Lillie and Wendie, I too remember only too well the famous 'march out' of RAF quarters!

Cleaning the cooker alone took days! I remember stripping absolutely everything 'strippable' off it, even cleaning the grooves of the screws with a pin! And no-one could have a bath until the shelves, trays etc had finished soaking in it! Then, you had to set to on the damn bath!

One of the kids would inevitably need the loo 5 minutes before the Families Officer (wearing the dreaded white gloves!) arrived to inspect the house...aarrrgh!...total panic!

Oh...and the garden, front and back, had to look immaculate too!

As for F1 going to Sky...£*%"&!!!

by fruitcake, 9 months ago

Aah yes Fruity you remember it well, thank goodness those days are over.
I do feel for Wendi and her cottage cleaning, with her background I'll bet it's immaculate.
I'm almost tempted to hire it out and go on an inspection with white gloves and all, lol.
Just joking Wendi, I feel your pain, I really do.

by LILLIE, 9 months ago

Poor Wendiew. I expect you wonder if it's all worth while with no sleep on a Friday with all the worry and then spending your Saturday cleaning up their disgusting mess. I can't believe anyone could treat your cottage so badly and I would put a black mark against their name and ensure they never returned. I would also keep most of the Bond myself for all the time cleaning and the stress.
Even on the cruise we kept our little stateroom immaculate and I made our beds each day. The Steward did like to fold our nighties up though!!!! Never had a man do that before.
He was lovely and left us loads of teabags and biscuits.
It makes you wonder what tips they live in at home.

I don't have a 'typical' Sunday, Lillie.

I just do whatever I feel like doing...it might be going out with friends, or to the pub, or to a music festival, or for a long walk in the countryside, or lazing around reading the sunday paper cover to cover, there's such a lot of things on and to do around where I live that I often don't decide what I'm going to do till I get up on a Sunday.
