I'm sure you're all aware of the ads that pop up on your browser from time to time.
These ads are a result of HTML cookies that track your movements on the internet and store your browsing history.
Apparently these cookie codes are funded by big business who want to promote their business at every opportunity.
The EU were supposed to implement restrictions on these cookies by May but every EU nation bar the UK has refused to do so.
As far as I'm concerned I'm past being influenced by corporate advertising and will and generally do purchase whatever I need when I need it.
I wonder if you feel stalked by these things or do you feel it's a pretty good business opportunity?
I just ignore them. Lillie.
I have my laptop set up so I don't get the pop-ups and when I've finished with the laptop I do a quick 'hoover' (ok I don't know the technical term for it) - basically I delete the browsing history, cookies etc etc so the rubbish doesn't get stored taking up space and slowing my laptop down. Also stops those pesky trackers from knowing what I'm up to so I don't get bombarded by their rubbish.
Thanks Wendi, I shall also start 'hoovering' I might even start to speed up a little as I've noticed things slowing down webwise this past month.
Phew. I thought you meant something different by 'internet stalking' in which case I'd have no social life :)
Try using CleanUp! It gets rid of pretty much everything your browser caches.
Lol G-Man, yes it's time I had a thorough internet clear out, I must get around to it.
Hi,
Sorry, I meant CleanUp! ... it's a freeware program:
http://download.cnet.com/CleanUp/3000-2144_4-10727454.html
Handily cleans your cache and temporary files of all things undesirable and incriminating... :)
Like Wendie, I have my laptop set up so I don't get any pop-ups, and also have it set to automatically clear all browsing history, temporary net files and all cookies etc at the end of every session.
Thanks Fruity, I'm now aware that this is something I can do to eradicate some of this persistence.
