Banging my head against the wall!

by , 9 months ago

I had to call the Tesco Personal Finance 'helpline' today. I was on the phone for over an hour with what I thought was a very simple enquiry.

After being put through to about nine different people, and giving my security details each time, I was put through to the fraud department in India as the stupid person I spoke to last said there had been fraud on my credit card account.

Needless to say, there hadn't, but that was another ten minutes wasted and still no answer to my question!

To add insult to injury, it's a premium rate line and there's no other way to contact them

I am simmering down over a large gin!

Oh doesn't it make you rage! I have just had a Tesco drama too, though not as horrendous as yours. I've just ordered my shopping online .... finished buying the essentials, looked at the total price and spent half an hour deleting anything that was not a matter of life and death. Do we HAVE to have milk in our brew? What about trying dry toast to avoid buying the butter. How about NO toast at all!! It's coming to something that the prices have reached such a high that even essentials are now being lopped of my list. Sorry, this has nothing to do with your discussion - but the mere mention of Tesco was enough to make me join in :)

Can I join you for that large gin please? Is it home distilled for money saving purposes? Must be or no one could afford to have the flippin stuff.

Oh, wendie, I so sympathise.

Please join me in the large gin, one of the things that will not be compromised on, even if I can't afford the toilet cleaner.

Us sisters have to get our priorities right!

Why am I not surprised by your experience.

I really hate the attitude and approach of Tesco's Customer Services. They possess an arrogance that relegates mere customers to a position of irksome and troublsome individual's because you have the audacity to express disatisfaction with a product or service.

Tesco's is truly my pet hate, I cannot praise them on any level and as for their advertising, which purports to save you money, nothing but a con!!

Actually, Parchester, I have nothing but praise for their customer service on the grocery site.

But the credit card site has let me down badly today.

They don't like me much at Asda because I always check my bill and quite often I have been overcharged - I blame them for talking to one another at the tills - the sales people not the customers. I used to be on the Customer Service desk and trained girls to care about the customer etc. but times have changed now and they look at you as if you have two heads if you complain. I once had a bill with £25.05 for fish which should have been £5.05 - good job I looked at my bill.

If the food in a restaurant is undercooked or not edible it soon goes back and a new plate of food served - entirely different from the first one submitted. I say stick up for your rights, it's your money and poor service is appalling.

On the other hand if I receive good service I am the first to show my appreciation and on occasions have sent a letter of thanks.

Sabre, I too worked training people in customer service for many years. My experience came from working for 7 years for a large US company. The Americans are good at customer service! I think this is mostly down to their attitude, they want the customer to be happy, and they don't see giving good customer service as 'demeaning' or 'servile' in any way, which I think is a lot of the problem in the UK.

Frankly, the customer service in a lot of British retailers is appalling. Like you, I complain when it's bad, and praise when it's good.

I have just been to Morrisons and they couldn't have been nicer. Very helpful there better than Asda which is closer but which I use for the money I get back on price check.

Go have an extra large gin and tonic Feline. It's so frustrating when you get through to so many people with no good result at the end.

by Sabre, 9 months ago

Well, Feline, how are the bruises on your head?! Not to mention the wall!

I hope now, after several hours and a large gin (or three!), you're feeling better.

You have my deepest sympathy, I've had a run-in or two with Tesco, not their Personal Finance helpline, just with my local store. Frankly, their customer service leaves a lot to be desired...and I didn't have to pay premium rate to suffer!

I hope you're recovering nicely, Sis... ;-)

Totally sympathise with you. My son has had a similar nightmare experience with Virgin media who have been equally horrendous. Long expensive phonecalls, promises that they will ring him back within the hour(of course they don't)...and bills which have been duplicated. No resolution either. What can be done? These people obviously want to wear you down so much that you just give up! It's no use suggesting pursuing complaints precedures...forums suggest these too are pointless.

Blimey, is all I can say!!!!!

Just got a phone call from Tesco with an abject apology, an answer to the question I asked yesterday, and a 10 quid credit into my account.

It certainly pays to complain, my friends.

by Feline123, 9 months ago

Well done, Feline! It definitely does, I did the same with my complaint to Tesco and got a £10 gift card. The Complaining Sisters rule!! :-)

by fruitcake, 9 months ago

We're going to have to change our name to the Complaining, gin-drinking, Old Lush Club Sisters!

by Feline123, 9 months ago

That just about sums it up! Well...on a bad day! ;-)

by fruitcake, 9 months ago

Congrats!

It definitely pays to complain!

Even better to blackmail...

by G-Man, 9 months ago

No wonder the prices in Tesco are going up! We're all paying for G-Man's blackmailing activities! ;-)

Congratulations Feline! I recently got £10 for inconvenience after purchasing some folding bikes on line. They had already reduced the bikes on special offer by over a £100 but there as there was a broken part when the bikes were delivered they reimbursed me the £10.

by Sabre, 9 months ago

Oh well done Feline!! £10 very nice to have but AN APOLOGY, an actual apology is, in many ways, even better. Excellent result.

by wendiew, 9 months ago

Ooh nice one Feline, yes it certainly does pay to complain as I often do these days but I'm also quick to praise when the rare occasion demands.
Now about that gin...

by LILLIE, 9 months ago

Gad you sorted that one out Feline!
