To echo The News of the World's final page headline last Sunday, today we learn that Rupert Murdoch has decided not to proceed with the bidding process to take full control of BSkyB.
The Office of Communications (OfCom) has stated that it is still deciding on whether News Corp's (Rupert Murdoch) stake of 39% in BSkyB should continue set against the fit and proper person's criteria.
Perhaps this could be the beginning of the end for Murdoch and his associated media interests/empire in this country. However, if he were to sell his newspapers he would in no way get a 'realistic' price for them given the concern and investigations surrounding them.
This is a huge victory for the British public who have been sickened by the revealtions of hacking and blagging and the inclusion and lawful impartiality of the police in this sad affair.
Do people see Murdoch's demise as a good thing?
Oh, I wouldn't count him as out just yet, just down.
A strategic withdrawal from an unpopular takeover bid and then firing a few managers will clear the slate and let him make another bid in 2 - 5 years time.
But I will agree that all that's happened so far is a great victory for democracy and the public.
Gosh Parchester - I thought you were leaving us for good. Glad to see you are staying!
I tell you what, I bet I don't get a standing ovation like this when I kick it into touch!
I thought that too, Sabre! So relieved we're not losing you, Parchester! :-)
I got my tissues out fruitcake and wiped a tear away. I thought of the song Goodbyee, goodbyee I wish you all a last goodbye. Hope he feels really wanted now.
God bless you all. But you'll have to continue to put up with my opinions for sometime to come!!
It will be a pleasure, Parchester! :-)
Phew, thank goodness for that Parchester. I too thought you were leaving us.

I would second that, G-man.
And I'll third it.
