Scottish Power out to get the low usage customers!

by , 10 months ago

The recent announcement from Scottish Power is bad enough for most households, but it seems that Scottish Power aren't finished yet...

They have released data on where prices are going to increase and who for. It seems that the low usage 'tier 1' users will be hit the hardest. You'll all know that your bills tend to be split into 2 prices, tier 1 being higher, the first how ever many units you use cost £X and after a certain usage level the price per unit reduces... Scottish Power are increasing this tier 1 by 29% on electric and 23% for gas.

Tier 2 is still seeing an increase, but not to the same extent.

So what does this mean?

Basically, if you are monitoring your gas & electric usage and cutting back, you're in for a price hike higher than the rest of us, if you are with SP. Low usage customers will be seeing a price rise of 19% on average. Whilst, the high usage customers are due to see a price rise of only 15%

Fair?
Since when was using less and cutting back something to be penalised for?

Please discuss =]

Nothing is fair when it comes to utility providers and their pricing tariffs. It is simple exponential price rises for the sake of it and god knows that that will do to the rate of inflation, if that even matters in these troubled times. I can only imagine more and more people having 'duvet days'. And can you blame them?

British Gas expects that the big 6 will actually fall to the big 4 within a few years due to the volatile market that is energy supplies. mind you they also think that the current 6 provide enough competition in the market.
I'm pretty sure there is about 50million people who would argue otherwise?

I think we'll go caravanning in the Winter and save fuel at home that way. Seriously though it's frightening to think the bills will go up by 20% - 25%. Early nights as well I think with hot mug of cocoa (and a good book)

Gosh Hetley you are really up on all this. Thank god I'm capped for another year before the candles, warm dressing gown and slippers come out. I dread to think what the prices will be like next year. I like your idea of duvet days Snoopy. Sounds like a good idea all sat round in the winter snuggled up with a duvet. - Sabre

I was thinking the exact same thing about the duvet days, haven't had one of those for a while. I know what I'm doing this weekend lol.

Thanks for the post Sabre, I like to keep up to date on this sort of thing because it affects the 100,000 clients we have on strict budgets trying to get by and pay back their debts.

Bills are expected to rise between 20% - 25% over the next 5 years just due to the green efficiency bill and rise in transport costs. The wholesale cost is the main volatile factor of the pricing structure. So any increase in the whiolesale price needs to be added on top of the 25% guranteed increase over the next few years too.

Doesn't sound too promising - bring on the wind power, just don't put wind turbines near my house lol!

Actually people, when I said 'Duvet days', I was actually thinking of people who wake up so depressed about money that they literally pull the duvet back over and shut the world out. But that's a cracking idea ... duvet days simply for warmth! And add a hot woman into the equation ... bliss!

Its shocking no wonder lots of people are now stealing electricity from the street lights - I mentioned that a while back but there was a new article showing people are taking the wiring from streetlights into their homes and running off the free electricity.

And if you know what you are doing re-wiring your meter isnt all that difficult to do!

So who can recommend a better energy company than Scottish Power for those on Economy 7 tariffs?

I've heard Eon are not too bad!

Npower are diabolical and dishonest to boot!

I do think the government should take steps to prevent utilities from penalising those of us who try to minimise our consumption. After all, many of us are not only interested in saving money, but also reducing the greenhouse effect.

So much for the government who tend to encourage less use of energy to reduce the countries carbon foot print. They then allow the utility crooks to charge low users excessive rates for cutting consumption.
