As I drive around, I have noticed that fuel prices are lower than they were two weeks ago. But I also note that prices still vary tremendously from garage to garage within say a ten mile stretch. And at one garage the differential between petrol and diesel was 1p, at others 6p.
These variations can mount up when you are using say 200 litres a month and you do wonder the rationale behind it all. Does the petrol industry have a gameplan here or do they make it up as they go along?
Where I live there is no evidence of this.
In fact, I did hear that diesel was coming down in price but have noted that many garages in this part of London have increased their prices to offset any dip in the profit margins they make!!
No change here on the East coast either Snoopy, I wish that it were so.
The supermarkets are still selling at the more reasonable rate but it's still costing hubby £35 in petrol per week in commuting costs, considerably more than this time last year.
Where i live, there has been a decrease in the petrol prices in the last week,by 3p a litre,we the same price as our local tesco at mo.
Well that's certainly what's happening in Sussex Blondie ... too early to feel good about it though!
I've been away for a few weeks, when I left it was 144.9 and now it's 138.9 so certainly a step in the right direction. Another 50p off each litre and we'll be in line with other countries!! Some hope.
They should have dipped due to the increase in supply in the market =]
Where I live they dipped petrol by 1-2p a litre and diesel by 2-3p a litre.
Petrol now 133.7
Diesel now 135.7
We purchased Diesel yesterday after looking round on our journey to see where to stop for the cheapest it was £137.9. (Cost £60.50 to top up.) That used to be 12 week's housekeeping many year's ago - ha ha showing my age again - Sabre ps shall have to get bike out!
Still much cheaper in France - currently Euros 1.25 per litre or £1.11 per litre at Super U Supermarkets / Hypermarkets.
Bit of a journey to get it mind!
What irritates me is that supermarket chains have differing prices at their pumps depending on where their stores are located.
The other day I had to go to Tesco's. At the roundabout I turned right and went to a Tesco's Extra three miles away, where the price was £1.349 per litre. Later that day I had to go to another part of east London and turned left, 3 miles in the other direction, Tesco's were selling their petrol at £1.299.
The price fluctuates depending on the competition within the area from other garages.
And I guess that Tescos, bless there little corporate socks, buy their fuel from the same source. It just goes to show that every little bit doesn't help anyone but Tesco PLC!
The cost of Diesel at a couple of petrol stations (not a supermarkets)
in Yorkshire yesterday was £l.37.9 and £1.39.9
Some of the supermarket were offering 5p off per litre if
you spent £40 or over.
North Wales: Within a 30 miles radius of me: Diesel 141.9 and petrol 139.9
at ALL places, makes no difference if it's a supermarket or petrol station.
It as dropped slightly but still not in line with other european countries or the price of crude oil.But we must consider we live in rip off britain one of the highest taxed nations in the world.
I am lucky i dont rely on my car and tend to only put £25 in at any time and this can sometimes last 6 weeks. Depending on my usage/plans etc. I wish it would come down but doubt it will.

Thank you Parchester .. I am in East Sussex and prices can vary by as much as 7p a litre over the county. It does get costlier the farther north you go from the coast ... I come originally from SE London so dread to think the cost up there.
£1.36 for unleaded and £1.40 for diesel. Although I have seen it at higher prices than this.
I love Sussex and envy you. I am a big supporter of Sussex County Cricket and have enjoyed many a summer day sitting in the ground at Hove.
I would go so far as to say that Brighton is one of my favourite places in the UK.
Well Parchester I am about 20 miles or so from Brighton and I have been a student at Sussex University in my younger days. Brighton is okay as long as you don't have to drive there or you are prepared to park on the outskirts and have a long walk in. I went on a course in March at Brighon & Hove Council offices and parking was a mere £18 for the day! And years ago I remember rolling old pennies into old arcade machines on the West Pier before it burnt to a cinder!
