Money friends, both of my sons have just been laid off.

by , 1 year ago

Both of my sons have worked for the same company since leaving school nigh on fifteen years ago.

They turned up for work this morning to find the administrators in, yes it was quite a shock although they had suspicions of the company struggling for quite sometime now.

I feel dreadful for both of them as they have young families and I do worry for the future for all of them.

They both have extremely good work ethics and will hate being out of work for any length of time.

I can only hope resolve, steely determination and the fortuitous prospect of fnding work is sooner rather than later.

I have to live in hope.

Oh my Lillie, my heart goes out to you and your family on this one.

I think we are going to see a lot more of this over the rest of 2011 and I honestly think that a 'job for life' is indeed a thing of the past. I do not believe that any employer actually cares for its workforce as they are simply a name nowadays on a pay sheet and if the books fail to balance, that name is removed. A simple view but oh so true.

I have only ever been redundant once in my life and it coincided with my wife becoming seriously ill so the timing was far from perfect. So I turned my full attention to making a job out of finding a job and after three hard months I was successful.

Yes the secret is steely determination along with total flexibility in accepting work where you can find it and the terms, conditions and working hours that go with it. Also be prepared to look outside your 'comfort zone' of work experience and apply for almost anything and everything, retraining as necessary.

I wish you sons every success .... I think you sometimes have to accept that as one door closes, another opens, often to advantage. I do hope they both find that advantage!

Aah thank you Snoopy, that's just what I wanted to hear, yes they are good lads and will turn their hands to most things.
They have already gone to 'sign on', something which is alien to both of them but needs must.
Thanks again for your kind words.

by LILLIE, 1 year ago

why is it when you sign on the person behind the desk look down like you are poo on there shoe , if it wasnt for people unenployed them people behind the desk wouldnt have a job,

by krlll08, 1 year ago

Nicely put as ever, hope works turns up for them both.

by lakes, 1 year ago

Yes signing on isnt a pleasant experience mainly because you are in the company of so many asylum seeking spongers and true dole-ite bludgers just there for the routine and noen of them actually looking for a job.

I mean these British pondlife stand outside smoking fags and getting into cars - I cycle down and certainly cant afford a pack of fags? Watch the program "Neighbourhood Watch" on stv and you will see what our society comprises of - and I hate to see it the common thread is "Single mothers" - I truly believe this is causing our society to degrade - you need a proper family life - people who say single mothers can be just as good as a 2 parent family are kidding themselves.

But as my mum says the lower element can always afford their beer , their fags and their football thats all the "average" Brit needs to have a good time!

We truly have become a third world country!

Omen, I wish with all my heart that I could say you're wrong, but I can't.

by Feline123, 1 year ago

Omen, I'v watched that 'Neighbourhood Watch' programme twice...it's truly shocking. I feel so desperately sorry for the decent people who have to live near these people.

Yep!

by Feline123, 1 year ago

Pond life oh my word, no wonder my sons were ashen faced when they called round.
They really are seeing the rough end of life at close quarters..

by LILLIE, 1 year ago

Oh Lillie - I'm so sorry to hear that. It must be such a worry for you and their families. Let's hope that they will both be successful in finding something else soon.
My sister was made redundant recently but was very fortunate to take on a temp post which has resulted in a permanant job starting this week - it was rather like a long practical interview. It's always worth taking whatever is going.

by Sidesalad, 1 year ago

Thank you sidesalad you're very kind, yes they'll do whatever it takes.
They're both currently updating their CV's.

by LILLIE, 1 year ago

Oh, Lillie, my good friend, I'm so sorry. When Mr F was out of work shortly after we got married, he decided to make getting a job a full time job. He got up every morning and got showered and dressed as if he was going to work, then went into the office and spent the day networking and spraying out CV's. It worked for him, eventually. After about six months we were beginning to despair when several job offers came in at once.

by Feline123, 1 year ago

Ah thank you dear Feline, encouraging words indeed.
I think the shock is slowly subsiding and now the practicalities have kicked in.

by LILLIE, 1 year ago

Lillie, I just know that any offspring of yours will get it together and make a lot of their lives.

by Feline123, 1 year ago

Oh, Lillie, I'm so sorry to hear this! It's a terrible blow and you must all be so worried!

I can't really add anything to the excellent and positive suggestions that the others have made above, but my fingers are well and truly crossed for you all.

I sincerely hope that the situation will be very temporary and that both of your sons find work very soon.

by fruitcake, 1 year ago

Thank you fruity for your kind words, yes everyone has been very supportive and I personally feel a little better now for it.

We are a strong family and do tend to feel each others pain so it's at times like this we all pull together and try to make the best of it.

I just hope something comes up for them soon as they are both good lads who both like to and need to work.

by LILLIE, 1 year ago

Sorry to hear the Lillie that truly is dreadful.
Bad enough for one but both is sad.

I am in the same situation myself so can understand the shock when told I was going to be made redundant from the best company I ever worked for!

Never mind keep the chin up.
Perhaps they can put their heads together and come up with a business idea.

Being in the same company for such a long time keeps you there - now they are free look at all the positives now!

No negatives just positive thinking will get you through the worst of times!

by Omendata, 1 year ago

Thank you Omendata, you're quite right we have to be positive.
I also wish you well in your quest for a new beginning.
It's all so sad as so many good, willing people are out of work, still as you say we have to remain optimistic.

by LILLIE, 1 year ago

Hello again friends just to update you regarding this situation.

Eldest Son has been retained in situ by the company who have now taken over the group and youngest Son will be taking up a new position as a marketing manager for a local Gym in two weeks time, so as you can imagine huge sighs of relief all round.

I was very proud of them as they knuckled down and dealt with all aspects of going into administration and what might have been had the worse scenario played out.

I would like to thank you all again for your kind and encouraging words at that very worrying time in our lives and I just hope everything pans out well for them and for you other people in a similar situation.

Thank you and Best Wishes...X
