Unlucky in love, lucky in cards ( or the lottery ) ... so the old saying goes but I suggest that is complete and utter bull effluent.
But is 'luck' a tangible entity? Does luck waft through the ether as a magical, cosmic phenomenon directed by supernatural beings with probing wands of happiness into our very being?
They say some people are born lucky and some people always 'land on their feet' in times of adversity. There are 'lucky' areas to do the lottery, 'lucky numbers' that will always be yours or even the so called lucky four leaf clover to be found.
But is luck simply 'mere' luck and simply a matter of random chance happening when you are in the right place at the right time? And is there anything we can do to attract 'luck' into our lives?
And should people's lives be subject to vast and irrevocable change by winning say six miilion pounds for wapping a quid down on the National Lottery? Does luck have any meaning there? I suggest not.
So, has luck come into your lives? Did it have a money connection? And did you see it as being 'lucky' or just sheer random and unattributable chance?
Unlucky in love, lucky in cards... Well, with no romantic interest, you'd have more time in which to perfect your poker technique. Erm, I guess if you can't poke 'er then you can poker...
As for luck - I reckon there at least three kinds of things we see as 'luck':
- luck as "random chance" (e.g. like winning the lottery where it's possible no one could win or being born into wealth)
- luck as "making an effort" (e.g. entering a competition / sweepstake someone *has* to win)
- luck as "optimism" (seeing the good side in everything, bouncing back and trying again in the face of adversity).
Most of my 'luck' has been simply making an effort I have to admit!
I believe that so-called luck is mostly a matter of being able to spot an opportunity or having an ability to turn events (good or bad) to your positive advantage.
This may be subconscious rather than always being on the make and it is often positive and hard-working energetic people that seem to have the 'luck' in life and sieze all the chances.
Having said that, your chances and outlook in early life do often depend on your choice of parents (for good health, stability and education) but there are many examples of people who have turned an unpromising start into an enviable lifestyle not through 'luck' but through sheer hard work and taking chances when they arose. Sadly we don't all have the ability or the desire to do the necessary work and make the hard decisions that can change our 'luck' in life.
Lucky in love Snoopy, precious little in monetary luck, still I know what I would rather have.
Luck in money matters ...... Not Yet! But it's Feb 1st next week, Premium Bonds day, so if my luck comes up I will let you know :)
Good luck with those Bonds Wendiew, I've had mine for over fifty years and never had a penny but my daughter in law has a couple of good wins in the past sixteen years so anything can happen.
What a shame your Bonds haven't won for you LILLIE, but congrats toy our daughter-in-law!. I've had a few £25 wins and a £100 several months ago. I am just keeping ahead of the interest rate but to be honest I like looking forward to the first of each month and if I have a little win I can then look forward to the cheque arriving around the 20th, and then start looking forward to the 1st again!! Makes the long cold winter pass by a bit quicker :)
Well, Mr Million didn't call but a couple of my numbers have come up trumps, so a nice £50 bonus for the month :) Very Happy!
Congratulations wendiew, time maybe for another new hat?
Congrats, wendiew! :-)
Ooooh - I got £50 too! Very happy with that!
Congrats to you too, Sidesalad! :-)
