Hi money friends, will anyone be booking a holiday this year?

by , 1 year ago

Or are the purse strings so stretched that plans will have to go on hold.

Hubby and I have decided if we go anywhere this year it will be an inland break sometime in May/June time or possibly September.

During July we fly over to Madrid and collect our Grandchildren for a three week holiday here to give their parents a break.

I think that will be pretty much it for the coming year, hopefully next year when the mortgage is paid off we may be a little more flexible as to when and where we go.

Anyway how about you, have you or are you going to make any plans?

I had planned to but today the cam belt and pistons blew in my car engine and now I have to fork out £1500 to have the work carried out. My immediate response was to scrap it but once the work is done the car should be good for another few years.

So the choice was simple holiday or car repair...the repair won out!! Boo hoo!

Oh Parchester that is so sad, wretched cars we can't live with them and we can't live without them especially if you live in an isolated area.

That is a great deal of money but if keeps you mobile for another year or two then it is sadly the right decision.

Am so sorry, Parchester, am sure Omendata will totally sympathise with you, his beloved Rover died on him.

Dead but not out quite yet.

I have a cunning plan...

Its so dashed cunning you could put a tail on it and call it a fox!!!

Beginning on Monday!!!

We would normally be going away to Lanzarote first week of February - next week - but not this year, there just isn't the spare cash. Our son will be working in Menorca from April so we're hoping that with his staff discount from Thomas Cook we might be able to stretch to a week there in May.

Roll on May and the staff discount Wendiew, I hope it all happens for you.

My boyfriend and I are very fortunate this year, and feeling particularly grateful as his mum and sister have invited us for a long weekend in Centre Parcs in the Lakes.

It'll be nice to get away from it all, and I always love UK breaks.

Aah that's lovely cpj, it's beautiful in the Lake District, I'm sure you'll have a great time.

My daughter had a week's holiday in a Center Parc in the Lake District last year, she said it was one of the best holidays she'd had.

We regularly went to Center parcs at Longleat - love it. Make time and pay a visit to the spa for total relaxation!

Lillie, I'm planning to have a break, but it will probably be within the UK this year and nothing fancy!

Enjoy your break Fruitcake, we have some lovely places dotted around the UK.

Hubby and I have had a few long weekenders where we've B&B'd along the way. We particularly like the Northumberland coast and Warwick in the midlands.

No plans as yet, but will probably just have a few long weekends in the UK (and in France for the wine shopping) rather than one main holiday.

If we do decide to take a longer break we might visit Mr F's brother who lives in south-west France. We would go by train which is quite expensive but at least the accommodation would only cost us a couple of cases of wine! The older I get the less I like flying, and I think the long drive would be rather too much for us nowadays. Very sad - I used to practically do it in my sleep.

I also loathe flying Feline, if it wasn't for my Grandchildren I doubt I would get on an aircraft again, it starts from all the hassle at the airport right through to the car parking charges, ugh!
I look forward to when they're old enough to travel on their own.

Your break sounds lovely, I think it's great if you can combine a family visit with a holiday.

Well with my love life in tatters, my public sector job under threat and my gas bill bubbling up, what't the cost of a dirty weekend away nowadays? :-}

by Snoopy48, 1 year ago

Oh Snoopy it does sound all toooo grim.

I wish I could tell you the cost of a dirty weekend, it's been sometime since any of my breaks had anything vaguely smutty about them.
Hubby and I get so exhausted just walking around sightseeing, must be an age thing!

I hope your job is safe, I know my daughter in law is one of the thousand council workers in Norfolk to finish in March, she only started working there in November last year, we couldn't believe it.

Ask Wayne Rooney - Usually a marriage I would say!

If you are looking for a dirty weekend away I can wholeheartedly recommend Ardentinny army assault course!

Very very dirty though Snoop - how dirty do you want to get?

Well done Lillie you made me have another EG moment - luckily I have transferred into Fruitcakes highly recommended waterproof pants so I can now ROFLMAO without worry of a high laundry bill or burnt sausage!

Hi Lillie

Actually I'm having my first holiday abroad for quite some time this year - it is a family affair with parents in law and other family members to France later this year - we are also hoping to crowbar in a few days at Eurodisney for us big kids. We are currently trying to save money for it. We also have a long weekend with family for an anniversary (not ours), but the accommodation has been paid for, we only have to sort a pressie. We were going to extend it with a Sun Holiday mon -fri break, but not sure that we can afford it since our computer needed replacing! But I still feel quite fortunate.

Ah that sounds like a lovely family holiday, I'm sure you'll have a wonderful time.
