The BT saving was just £1.50 per month achieved by cancelling Friends & Family Mobile. Easy? No! Phoned BT and got stuck in their automated system for over 20 minutes, menu after menu ...... finally got a real person in the worng department but she did manage to cancel it for me. Success! Next on the hit list was SKY. My package was £9p/mth in 2005, but has stealthily risen to £22p/mth. I have ordered a Freesat Box to replace SKY. So I rang them today to cancel and the chap asked me Why? Too dear and c**p I answered. He said the 'too dear' part could be solved by offering me my package at half price for 6 months, but added that he couldn't do anything about SKY being c**p!!!!!! Now cancelled I have £23.50 more for my mortgage each month. Both these companies have huge websites where customers can update, change products, order new stuff etc etc. Neither website allows the customer to cancel anything at all - you HAVE to phone them and deal with the robots. Infuriating!! And to top it off they CAN offer better prices but they don't till you say you're leaving. Customer Service .... PAH!!!
Rant over. My apologies.
Well done Wendiew! There is something very liberating about saving even small amounts. We often can't be bothered and I think a number of businesses hope that for such small amounts people will put up and shut up and they make money out of your inaction.
From small acorns do large oak trees grow. So keep finding those little payments and rid yourself of them.
I have long held an annoyance towards companies or take for granted customer loyalty but offer attractive benefits to win new buisiness and when as a loyal customer you ask for these benefits they 'no can do'!!
Keep beavering away!
Oh yes well done Wendiew for standing your ground and hanging on for those interminable 20 mins.
No they don't like you to cancel anything so no they aren't going to make the process easy or quick.
Don't apologise for having a good rant, it's very therapeutic oh and good luck with your cost cutting and savings.
Hard work DOES pay, Wendiew. You're right, it shouldn't be that difficult, but companies pay people huge sums to come up with ways of keeping customers and saving money and this is one of the ways! Just so you know, my BT bill (with broadband) had risen to over £40 per month, Tesco offered me a better deal so when I went to BT to cancel, they cut my bills to £24.50 per month and upgraded me to Broadband Option 3! Make sure you're out of contract with them and then give it a go. And they were super nice about it too, I did it all by e-mail so no hanging on the phone for them. It turns out we, the customers, are actually quite valuable! Keep on saving. x
