We are told that a printing glitch led to customers being sent the first page of their own bank statement but pages two and three of another customer's. The paperwork included names, current account numbers and details of transactions they had carried out.
Do you fully believe their account of events? I just find this alarming and thank God that I do NOT bank with them because such incompetence is hard to take.
I find this staggering and then they said that there wasn't enough information for anyone to use it fraudulently! But if I had the name and address and account number of someone and knew how much was in their account I'm sure I could use it somehow if I was so inclined. It's interesting too that it's only been disclosed today but happened a couple of days ago. Heads should roll methinks.
I didn't realise that it included names and account numbers etc. I too am thankful that I don't bank with them, but people have had plenty of warning with the terrible customer service record that they have. There had to be a reason why they were offering £100 just to bank with them didn't there?!
I am sure there will be an investigation into this to find out if their account of events is correct which I am sure will make interesting reading!
Well, I'm afraid that I'm just not surprised by this at all. Ever since Santander bought Abbey National, the standard of banking has dropped dramatically and when I've approached my local branch, have been told that there will be glitches when mergers happen. WHATEVER!
In response to the Statements Issue, why can't Santander, like other banks already do, offer a paperless statement? After all, the option to down load an online copy of ones statement is already in place.....
Yes and I have had one and am contacting my lawyer after the holidays to see what can be done in terms of compensation.
Heh, in one of the previous incarnations of Aviva, about 12 years ago the company mailshot all the dead customers on their books rather than the living ones.
It was a marketing mistake apparently :)
Then again, this sort of thing pales against the personal data loss that the civil service managed to do the other year!
