INCREASE IN FUEL DUTY

by , 1 year ago

Is it realy the right time for the Government to impose a 1p increase on petrol and diesel duty.

No I don't think it is. Unfortunately what I think and the majority of the population thinks when it comes to increases in fuel duty is irrelevant. We have half heartedly made attempts at voicing our anger in the past and it had absolutely no impact whatsoever. I could not be without my car and like many others pay the price through gritted teeth. Motorists are already heavily taxed and whilst I don't agree with it I have little option but to pay. I just try to make as many savings as I can in other areas to try and compensate for the ridiculous amount we are charged just to go about our daily business.

This increase effectively is a artificial price increase on most products in the UK which averages out at nearer 5% than the visible 1% that we actually see.

Given that VAT will increase in January. This is just another cynical stealth tax increase ahead of other disproportionate rises in our daily living costs. 1p on fuel often means 3p increase on food stuffs in the shops. It also means a hike in public transport fares and when this happens less people are inclined to use public transport and opt to use the car, so there is a knoock on effect to the environment but then there is speculation that the government will introduce greater green taxes and so everyone ends up paying more not just motorits. All these increases will push inflation up again and this has the potential to feed into the economic pressure that could push the UK back into recession. However, 1p is still less than the planned 2p increase. But where they give with on they take twice as much money with the other!!
