...and how much do you think is too much?
We spent quite a lot on our wedding, approx £15k. In hindsight perhaps we should have budgeted more, although we did have a fantastic day and honeymoon. I think your spending too much if you get in debt.
All in my wedding cost me under £5000 but that was in 1993! However I still think that a weeding could be done for this amount even today. My dress was £100 seond hand, the photographer who was a friend of my husbands did the photographs for £200 and I was able to get a beautiful 3 tier cake for £120. We did not get married in a church and used the local registry office which was opposite a beautiful park where we had a lot of photographs taken so we saved quite a bit of money by doing this. Obviously some individuals may have a preference to get married in a church for personal beliefs but this wasn't 't really an issue for us. Most of the budget went on the reception and evening meal and disco which we booked at a local hotel. There were additional expenses for flowers and we did not bother with a fancy car for transport, we were kindly 'loaned' one for the day. It all depends what you want but it can still be very special without spending ridiculous amounts. We just had other priorities about where we wanted to be spending our money. I am sure by today's standards this type of wedding is very passé as it seems people want to do bigger and better things and for it to be very different and individual. It all depends what price you are willing to pay.
£100 for your dress? I salute you frenchwoodgirl!!
Yes it was a bargain and had been beautifully hand made for the previous owner but I still felt very special in it when I wore it.
Too much is not being able to afford it. Now, when it comes to a wedding dress... it's always too much - unless you ask the bride of course!!
Ha! Not quite sure I agree with you there. I kind of begrudge spending so much on a dress you get to wear once.
We spent about 7k on our wedding back in 2001. My parents paid for my dress which i still have to this day. We had a great day and if we did it all again i wouldnt change one thing. It was a great day and as a normally shy kind of person i really enjoyed it - even saying the vows didnt phase me! The one bit of advise i would give to anyone is to have it videoed/filmed. We did and it is a great thing to look back on. I still look at it now. I never saw any one arrive at the church but the video enables me to see everything that was going on before i got there. Happy day and great memories.
